PS3 broken? Help needed...

My PS3 appears to have died after 3 years. It starts up but either freezes or switches itself off & the red light flashes. I think it may be the hard drive but I'm not too sure.
Its a 60gb PS3 with a 250gb hd in it that I put in about a year ago.
So can anyone tell me-
1) How do I tell if it is the hard drive, or something worse?
2) Where's the best place to get a replacement drive?

And before someone starts, NO I shouldnt get/have got an xbox....

If the light quickly flashes yellow before flashing red then you have YLOD. google it, the system is pretty much dead if its that.

Try turning it off then vacuum the air vents (fixed my friends ps3). If that doesn't work it is dead.

if your worried it's the hard drive, take it out and turn your ps3 on. if it still doesnt work then it's not your hard drive

Tell CEX you wanna sell it.

They'll test it for you and - i presume if it fails - they'll tell you the problem.

ALL FREE!!

this will be the best way to tell if its the hard drive as the ps3 will still turn on and then tell you there is no hard drive, if it freezes on startup or goes off straight away it wont be the hdd

Just tried it again without the hard drive in & it eventually comes up with-
"Cannot start. Correct hard drive not recognised"
Then a minute later it switches itself off.

If it's said the hard drive, surely it's the hard drive?

you said you popped a new one in?

Sounds like either a overheating problem. Could be GPU. I believe the YLOD means CPU died so i don't think its that.
