Hi,
Someone has offered me a PS3 (old style) for £100. He says it has the error message:

"data corrupted re-format the hard drive"

He says they have formatted the hard drive but it still does this. Is this an easy fix or can it be fixed and is £100 over the realistic asking price?

Thanks

Yep i had one like this... the shiyt Hitachi HDD had packed in.

Personally its a bargain... get it for £100 and buy a WD 320 or 500 gig to go in it.

If u dont want it ill have first dibs ;-)

Thanks for the replies.

Would a 250GB 2.5" do the job?

What would the re-sell value be?

id say about £160, as long as you upgrade the harddrive it will be great! 100 quid is a bargain if it is just the HDD :)

Do I need to do anything to the HDD? Does it have to be a specific HDD? Just format and connect?

Edit, the drive I was thinking of using is from a WD Passport external HDD

It needs to be a 2.5in standard height SATA hard drive (9.5mm), if you're meaning you've got the drive out of the casing and it's a 250GB 2.5in SATA drive then it should be fine.

Yeah thats what i'll be doing. The USB connector broke on the casing so i'll use the HDD for that.

Thanks guys, have some rep for your efforts :)

From personal experience make sure the drive is not 7200rpm. The phats had a tendancey to get hot and the extra spin speed will add to that. Also there are several makes that have been proven not to work in the PS3... but that was me looking a while ago.

TBH m8 for what you can pick up a 320gig WD blue now for is pennies, well about £37 to be exact. I doubt youll find a decent 250 for little less than that.
