If you have updated your PS3 firmware today, to ver 3.0, as well as having a new, more fugly interface, you can now use 'dynamic themes' on your PS3............

US store will try to sell you the Little Big Planet one, but you can grab the freebie Afrika one from the Jap PSN store - it is ace.

whoops, forgot you must be new to this... you also need to make it "readable" by the PS3.

On the USB stick create a folder in the root directory (the directory that is immediately after you open the flash drive) called PS3 (they must be caps)
then in that folder called PS3, create another folder called THEME

place the theme in that folder and then plug the USB drive into the PS3....

then go to [THEME SETTINGS] in the settings menu, select [THEME]

when the right hand menu appears, select [INSTALL] - then select your USB device and it'll auto find the theme AFRIKA, hit the x to install.

Then go back into [THEME] and when the right hand menu appears select AFRICA and hit [apply]

then it's done :)

from what I am Reading now it seems you have to set up jap account and keep that account live if you want to run that theme bu t I am very tired so that may be bad info as well. sorry to have wasted your time above as it seems it was someones idea of a joke . H a ha

No worries mate.. it was worth a try anyway. Will have a go at setting up a jap account tomorrow, too tired at the moment, thanks for trying anyway

Just set up a Jap account and it worked straight away... well cool !!

Is there any way to turn the Jap PSN into english writing ? I was a little lost and tbh if it wasnt the number1 download in the top10 (like the US PSN shows) i would most probs not have found it. I bet theres more cool stuff hidden in there somewhere... but theres no way to find it without learning Japanese :p

PS.. my little girls gonna love this one on her PS3, have some well earned rep dan ;-)

No worries - glad you liked it Squelds - it does look pretty good tbh, much better than a static image.

Setting up a Japanese account is not a great hardship - it really only takes 3 minutes, and like Squelds says, the Afrika theme is the no 1 download on the front page. Best off doing that, seeing as Sony have kindly put it up there for us :-) . dontasciime, I think you may be linking to the Hakuna Matata theme, which I also downloaded from the Hong Hong store earlier - it is static images of Cheetahs etc. The dynamic theme is about three times the filesize

or just click the triangle button and select SHOW ALL FILES

No, I downloaded it on the JAP account and went back to my normal account (didn't use it on JAP account) and the theme was in theme settings :)

No - you can download content from any store - Jap, US, Hong Kong, European, and it is accessible under all of your user ids.

I take a lot of demos and themes, and the odd freebie from the US and other stores, as they are simply not available in the European store. Everything I download is instantly visible and useable from my main (European) account.

I think you would only have trouble if you were to actually cancel the US/Japanese account that you used to download.

The Hong Kong store is a good one to use, as most of the content is the same as the Japanese one (Afrika theme exempt), but the menu system and game titles are in English (so you can actually navigate them without a Japanese dictionary)

There is a good Katamari demo on the Hong Kong/Japanese store at the moment if anyone is interested - worth a look

I used the whole 'show all files' method when i transferred 200gigs worth of movies and music from a memstick to my daughters PS3... unfortunately not tried it on anything else so........

But good tip though csiman... im sure there are lots of peeps out there that dont know this is an option and put them all in PS3 specific folder names.

Yeah, the "show all" function works fine when you're trying to access video/music, and even game saves I think... but not for themes or firmware updates. I was quite suprised by it too, I used to DL themes all the time, but always put them in the relevant folder on a USB stick... this time around I just put them in the root folder of the USB stick and it just flashes the "no data found" or whatever and doesn't let you access the triangle button to "display all" :(

Sorry about the  csiman - was one of those nights

Has anyone noticed on their ps3 that whilst signed into the jap account the Zebra Afrika theme is nice and bright Sunny etc but when they sign out and back into UK account its dull as if ascreensaver/dimmer is active. I have changed time zone to compensated for jap time and still the same.

EDIT my US account is also fine just my UK one displays it dark

It's looking more and more like the time/zone is hard coded into theme

Actually forget the above it was me a while ago I adjusted the brightness to -5 and forgot to put it back :LMAO
