PS3 Fifa 10 or 09 - is it REALLY worth paying so much extra for?

Hi all.

We have a PS3 but are not serious gamers at all - apart from the occasional game of Pacific Rift we only ever use it for Blu-rays.

We also wouldn't usually dream of paying £30 or £40 for a game, but OH has got addicted to Fifa 10 at his friends house on the 360 so he wouldn't mind buying a copy for home.

I told him that Fifa 09 is MUCH cheaper, like £9.99 as opposed to £28 and he has said just buy that one then.

What I am wondering is - would it be worth us paying nearly 3 times as much for the 2010 version, is it that much better?

Thank yous x

Fifa 09 is only £4 from cex, prob less at gamestation. i cant imagine why 10 would be better. i play neither tho.

well fifa 10 feels more refined compared to 09 in terms of passing and player movements and most reviews give it 9/10. You can get fifa 10 around £20 as its been that low in some place. Just do a quick search on hukd

Fifa 10 is fundamentally the same game TBH but the newer version has........

Updated players and teams (new transfers, new kits, stadiums)
Game face - you can import you own photograph to create a player with your face
Also if your OH wants to play online against his mate then he will need Fifa 10 also.

There are other improvments to the overall game play

I would stretch the extra to have the new features.

I actually had fifa10 and sold it to go back for fifa09. Saved me £20 too :)

of course 10 is better...better gameplay and different features.

Fifa 10 has an apparant 360 degree control system using analogue stick where Fifa 09 was only 8 directional i believe, One of the few improvements, i for one think its worth the money but i picked the game up from gamestation brand new when it was £20.

The guys above are right - there's better graphics, animations, game-face etc., but the real difference is in the controlling movement - FIFA 09 only has movement across 8 directions - up, down, left, right, and diagonals. FIFA 10 has 360 degree movement, so is a lot more fluid in terms of gtting around the pitch, knocking the ball on around players etc.

I didn't really think I felt the difference of it when I went from 09 to 10, but when you go back again, you do feel the difference.

The keepers come out ridiculously early in 10 - that's a downfall. Lots of chipping opportunities when attacking though :o)

Aside from this, not much difference - and if you like playing online, there's still a huge player community for 09. But given that FIFA 10's been on here a few times for sub-£20, I'd personally go with that to keep yourself up to date. EA are getting into the habit of switching game servers off sooner and sooner these days...an extra £15 for some extra longevity...

Thanks everyone - seeing as 09 is only £4, we will give it a go and see :)

Cheapest I can find 10 is £27.75 from ShopTo but will keep an eye out for it

It's worth upgrading, but only if you will be playing it often, then you will appreciate the differences.
Online is just Chipfest 2010 though.

I did not know you could play cross platforms, as his mate is using it on the Xbox 360 and he has a PS3.

(or was it a typo?)

How can you even say that when its obvious you havent even played fifa09 :whistling:

and the OPs question was " would it be worth us paying nearly 3 times as much for the 2010 version"

The simple answer is no unless you have money to burn or have a desire to have silly little extras

fifa09 - £5

fifa10 - £25

Anyhow..

If its £4 for 09-- Give it a go... -- you could always buy "10" in a few months when its less than a tenner
