Play t.v - use it as a freeview tuner, can record programs etc to watch them later,

Iplayer/stv player all that crap that youve missed on either channel

Love film try get vouchers for birthdays and that:)

Jailbreak if you want ?

Also, get external harddrive(with music, movies, pictures etc on), plug in via usb and it just acts as extra memory

Remote play with a psp

Tons of things, they are just a few that ive found and use more often :)

Also good for internet surfing imo :)

bcc, itv & channel 4 players
stream music/movies from your laptop/pc (i have tversity on my laptop)
play movies via the memory card slots (this is on older models. not sort if it can play via usb on newer ones)
vidzone - music videos
life (aka folding at home) help cure cancer & other illnesses!
watch bluray movies
watch 3D movies
play games
play 3D games
freeview recorder (play tv needed)
play ps1 games
play ps1 games via remote play on your psp
watch tv/recorded tv on your PSP anywhere in the world via remote play
if you have a psp (not psp go) & resistance retribution & resistance 2, you can unlock/infect the psp game & also use a dualshock controller as the controller for the psp!
if you have a psp go you can connect a dual shock controller via bluetooth to the pspgo to use as a controller! even better, get the tvout cable for the pspgo & it turns the pspgo into a home console!

Mate don't be buying psone games in the hope that they will work as they will not if you are looking to play psone games you have to download them from the playstation store, if you have an original ps3 it may well be able to play playstation 2 games but nit psone

I thought ps1 games work on all ps3 consoles?

Ps2 games do not, well not on all models except for the original 60gb console

You are correct, bob100. TomBoyNI is mistaken.

Original PlayStation (PS-One) titles from the same source region (e.g. "PAL", for us here in the UK) are supported across the entire PS3 console range.

On my Ps3, i play my ps1 and ps2 games as well as my ps3 games:) i watch blurays, i stream from lovefilm. i watch vidzone and i catch up on missed programs on 4od and bbc iplayer (not used itv's offering yet) i listen to my own music collection which is stored internally as are a collection of films. I chat to friends who also have ps3's and i also view my photos with friends and family which are also stored internally. (gotta love the card reader :) )

install vidzone - 10,000 music video library

install photo gallery - excellent photo viewer

get a copy of xvid4psp (www.winnydows.com) as perfect for encoding nearly all video types to PS3 format

set up pc as a server for streaming audio / video / photos direct to ps3

Doesn't the PS3 have issues with certain content downloaded from the web. Some sort of security feature??? Not turning this into a fan boy thing as I'd love some of the VOD features of the PS3 on my xbox.

Don't even consider Jailbreaking it. Sony has the facility to brick your PS3 - so you can't even play it offline - wirelessly (obvs via internet). (saw an article on it in DigitalFoundry on Eurogamer).

I take it you're also passing on unconfirmed gossip, see below

Such a thing would be illegal, as to jailbreak is only going against Sony's T+C's so at most they can ban you from online but they cant disable basic features like dvd access and game access since that is the point of the console.

I never knew that the ps3 played ps1 games until I read this thread.
My boys are going to be thrilled with that tommorow :-)
Do you have to have a memory card adapter for the memory cards?
Just for curiousity, why can't the ps3 play ps2 games if it plays ps1?

Its emulation, it doesnt have the PS1 or PS2 hardware on it and the hardware isnt good enough to emulate PS2 games.

create a PS1 type memory module within the PS3 itself using part of the hard drive. See GAME section.
