PS3 network help!

Afternoon all

Is there anybody out there who can help me? I've visited many help forums but as I'm from the Spectrum 48k age (if you don't know what that is, ask your dad!) I need someone to simplify my connection problems.

I've been connected to my orange wireless router for some time but having gone back to playing my PS3 after a few weeks I can no longer connect it online.

I've tried re-inputting my network key and everything attached to it but every time it does a connection test I keep getting a failed notice when the PS3 is retrieving the IP address, and get a time out error message.

Does anybody know what I can do? Just puzzling me because it's been connected before but won't now even though I've not changed any of my settings.

Also, I've joined the HUKD Fifa 08 league and need to get round to kicking young folks behinds!

Thanks!

not that i know alot about this but if you go direct thru modem does it work? i so, may need to log into router and redo the port forwarding.??:?
#2
Check your router settings and try resetting it maybe? Also try deleleting the network connection from PS3 and re-assign it.
Hope that helped

I've tried and failed at both suggestions but thanks anyway.

switch off modem for a minute or so then switch back on make sure u set up ps3 to the exact security settings as the router is ,or hardwire it straight to modem .mine fine on router
#5
Have you got MAC address filtering turned on on your router? Maybe thats the reason its not connecting.
#6
its a ****** when they work and then they dont. presume you have an other device (pc) to check the connection is there?
Dont know if orange update their boxes automatically but its possible its same issue i came across with a laptop.
There is two types of security available to wireless and this time they cant decide automatically, set both router and ps3 to use same type of security, try wep its less secure but wth does it matter on a console.

We have this problem at uni, normally once or twice a week one of us wont be able to get an IP from the router and we have to reset, i dont have a clue why though

Cheers all. Still without my connection after following about 20 guides on the net to complete it! Getting so sick of typing in my Network Key using the control pad I can now memorise it (which is a whole lot of sad!)

I'll keep trying but don't now how much longer I can be bothered.

get a cat5e cable from ebay and run it to the ps3 from your router. so much less hassle than wireless and totally secure and quicker.

I'm starting to get that feeling myself! Now my internet has slowed right down even though it has an 'excellent' connection.

Problem being is that I've got the net with my mobile contract which still has a good few months to run on a £35 p/m contract, so unless anyone can recommend how I get out of it, it looks like I'm stuck for another 9 months.

Wouldn't mind as I was going to take out the free Sky internet option with my telly but thought I'd be better getting Orange so I had a new phone with it as well.

Right, I've now managed to get it to recognise its IP address, but now get a DNS error. Starting. To. Lose. My. Temper.
#13
try flipping the dns.
ie if u have dns set to point to router, put in your isp dns or vice versa

I tried setting up me PS3 round me dads but couldn't get anywhere, he gave me a spare Linksys, went home and i set it up in no time! Now i don't have a password on yet but he did so could that be the problem?

Also ive had it where the PS3 gets a DNS error box pop up and kicks me offline, all i do is either turn off the Linksys or turn the power off my modem and voila im back online.

Btw those Speccys suck, C64 ftw!

dont have/use a ps3 but have come across many wifi router/device conflicts usually caused by them not agreeing on what security level to use, set them both manually at whichever suits u (wep faster but lower security) and that sorts many probs)
after taht u can move on to the network probs that arise lol

my mate has the same problem, and its just with his belkin router 'cos he can sign in at anyone elses house.

i couldn't get onto his router settings (via laptop) because it wouldnt accept any ip address we thought was right. so hes a bit ******ed.

i told him to get a connection straight from his router to his ps3 and i think hes gonna buy one, can someone post on here if they find a solution

If u can see the network and can join it on your laptop open a command prompt and type ipconfig /all this will show the addresses for the router (its the default gateway) look in device manager for the make of the network card to look for in the table
one possibility is that u are not actually on the routers network because it has a time limit on the joining of new clients, power off the router for 30 secs before u boot the laptop up
Possibly actually joining next doors wifi router lol

thanks for that

cant get hold of him now but will certainly try tomorrow
