PS3 or xbox 360.....

OK, just been round a mates house and now i'm addicted to COD4. i need a 360 or a ps3 my humble xbox just doesn't cut the mustard any more. im a bit cautious about opening a big can on worms on the ps3 360 debate so ill ask specific questions.

are the graphics on the COD4 game the same on both systems?
when playing on line what are the different costs/month and can the two systems play each other?
are any games bought out in the foreseeable future going to be given better graphics on any one system?
and with a 360... is it worth the extra £50 for the elite over the premium?

hope i can get some answers with out starting off the format based WW3!

thanks, GIJimmy

Too late, can of worms opened.

[1] Yes
[2] PS3 free, 360 something like £25-30+ per year depending on how you subscribe; cannot play together
[3] ......... someone else will answer that
[4] ......... the elite models fail too so ......

ps3 is free online gaming

xbox live 12 months membeship costs £27ish off ebay

Elite not worth exta because all it has is a bigger harddrive and you dont really need it.

No u can play ps3 users vs xbox 360 users.

id say xbox 360 because of the online gaming and the games are cheaper but it depends what your friends have also.

Or get the ps3 if you wana watch bluerays.

Graphics are similar but it depends if you have a good hd t.v

I'll try and help where I can...

COD 4 - Graphics are pretty similar
Online - PS3 network is free whereas xBox is approx £30 per year. General view is the xBox is superior interms of content and volume of users to PS3
Vs. Each Other - Not possible
Future Potential - Longer term the PS3 is more likely to see better graphical development as its releativley new in its life cycle and developers are still unsure how to make best use of its power. Whereas the 360 is quite a way into its life. That said it obviously costs more the more you change a game so when games are being developed for both platforms the differences will be quite minor.
Premium Vs. Elite - Premium has been rebranded the Pro which is the newer version and less prone to failure, in my view a better option than the Elite (key difference is colour white vs. black and HD 20gb Vs. 120gb

Overview - I choose the 360 (a year ago) as I wanted a gaming console for now and had no real interest in Blu-Ray and other multimedia options, Im more than happy with using the 360 as a streamer for my pictures and music to my TV.
The real decider was the selection of back catalogue and price of older 360 games

In my view if you want a games console for the now and to savea bit of cash the 360 is the way to go.
I get all my games 2nd hand (through here or AVForums) or using deals have a little look at how cheap you can pick up games for i.e. Halo 3 £10, Burnout Paradise £20, Crackdown £8, Dead Rising £8, PES 6 £2, GoW £10, Bioshock £12

If your massively into HD and want something that has lots of future potential the PS3 is the way forward.
Personally i'll wait a few years and when its in the position the 360 is now maybe pick one up

is there more downloadable content (like films and the such available for the elite? provided by bt the same as their vision package) or did I imagine that?

Nope content is the same just a bigger hard drive (120GB Vs. Premiums 20GB) and blakc vs. white. If you plan on storing loads of music etc... then the elite might be best.
For most users 20gb is more than enough!

I use the 360 for online games at the minute and the PS3 for anything media related. Pretty much how everyone else seperates them, 360 doesn't even come close to offering the same media experience and vice versa.

In order to store music on the 360 HD you have to burn music to a CD then rip it again, how ass backwards is that.

cant you link it wirelessly to a computer? anyhow i have a sonos so i wont be using it for music. maybe some visual media from the computer but i cant see my habits changing too much in the next year or so. i love my dvd's too much. :)

yeah mine is linked to my computer wirelessly & it plays off a usb stick too so not sure why you would burn it to a CD & back again?

I went for a 360 for the xbox live & price & am well impressed not got much of a comparison though as none of my mates have ps3's either so not seen one in action yet.

To store it on the HD.. without having to leave a computer running... or use a portable drive / memory stick.

It's just an example... media can be a PITA on the 360. PS3 handles it much better.

Anyway my 2p.
I've got both but I prefer the ps3 due to the amount of time wasting stuff you can do on it. Like watch bbc iplayer, admittedly the quality isn't great but the basis is there for great quality internet streaming telly on super fast lines.
Currently I'm playing Street Fighter 2 on a snes emulator on the linux that I've installed on the ps3.
I've just watched a converted HD of transformers on the ps3 - great quality.
I stream football matches, music and vids, all which the 360 can do but the ps3 seems to handle it so much better.

You can buy PSN games cheap from the Hong Kong store (apparently), and they have a bucket load.
You can upgrade the harddrive for the fraction of the price of a 360 upgrade.
No changing batteries on the controller, really annoys me on the 360.
All you can hear is a whisper from it, I've got the 60gb version and its still really quiet and the newer 40gb ones are quieter again. My 360 sounds like two pigeons stuck in a budgie cage.

The graphics and games are practically equal - the 360 pipping it on online multiplayer though.
The playstation network doesn't really compare to it. Don't get me wrong, PSN plays perfectly well, its just the small things like seeing whos online and what theyre playing whilst in game that counts.

Brain freeze.

hopefully though the ps3 update on the 18th will let you get the friends list in game, aswell as music and what not

The PS3 is the best! The Xbox is rubbish.

Xbox gets my vote. One of the most crucial things for me is the controller, and I really hate the PS3 controller. The analogue sticks are in the wrong place, the resistance is too small, and the tops curve downwards. Also the triggers (L2 and R2) are nasty. The Xbox controller however, is pretty much spot on.

As for Premium/Pro vs Elite, I'd say go for the Elite. 20GB really isn't very much at all, and you'll fill it very quickly.

If you've invested £300+ on a games console, it's unlikely you going to hear anything other than 'their choice is the best'. Unless it's someone who 'claims' to have both.

If you've got m8's that have one or/and the other. Go round and have a play. Make up your own mind on your own experiences.

In order to play your "OWN" music in game on 360 is the reason for ripping cd to HD. On the PS3 you "CAN'T" play your own music your stuck with their game music, how ass backwards is that.

It would seem Live takes the PS3's online gaming to school. There's lots to keep you hooked and involved with Xbox Live. It's a def selling point imo.

I chose the 360 as I use my original Xbox with XBMC for all my media streaming needs. I don't (and won't for a long time) have much full HD media and currently have no interest in Blu Ray, so no need for a PS3. I needed a console for gaming - and the 360 had more to offer.

Defo the 360 it ****** all over the ps3 in online gaming downloadable content it actually has a friends list and also the xbox exclusives are amazing not mentioning any names halo and gears of war.
and the graphics are pretty much the same
the controller on the 360 is ultimate comfort and control it has TRIGGERS instead of R2 AND L2
