PS3 Problem

Hello
Got a PS3 off a mate which was working and now it isnt playing blu ray or games.
Checked the tinterweb and the full format reset seems to be the way to go
All the lights are as should be and the menu works fine
Takes hours for this to complete, has anyone got any experience of this and/or other solutions?
Many thanks

My brother had this problem, something wrong with the disk drive, sony charging about £80-£100 to fix it. He tried formatting hard drive and everything. He had the 40 gig one. Which one you got ?

I may need to do the same with one of my friends PS3s', but I have to break it to him that he will lose all his MW2 saves.

Anybody else's experience has no baring on how sucessful you'll be, so unless you have another free way of doing it, you may as well try.

You could always back up the saves to a USB stick or something, assuming they aren't locked like Dragon Age...

40gb Bluray Death, quite common.

A lot of the 40gb PS3's were fitted with a low quality blu-ray laser lens which seems to last a max of 12 months. I ordered a new blu ray lens which cost £35 from e-bay and replaced it myself (very easy to do) and the console is as good as new.
