Can a PS3 download demos and videos on standby like the Xbox can or does it just stop them and resume when turned on again.

It does not download when on standby.
It needs to be on fully.

This doesn't happen on an xbox either.
You can remotely add them to your q but it will not download until it is switched on.

The xbox will download when switched off (if you enable it), it just wont turn itself on to start downloading things you've queued from xbox.com.

start a download and set it to download in the background, go to the far left of the xmb(main menu) and select turn off system, this will leave the console on but once it finishes downloading it will turn off, it will also install anything that isnt already installed
