PS3 Repairs for the YLOD ! any recommendations?

Hi peeps!

My Ps3 broke - and i didn't even get the pleasure of doing so!
But i'm told it just shut down after being on the floor (carpet) and from the symptoms I'm pretty sure its the "yellow light of Death" caused from overheating.

Fromm googlinf it seems an easy fix if you're either good with solder, have a industrial heat fan or the bravery to put your PS3 in an oven.

But i'd like to get it fixed, but just wary of who i can go to. Can anyone recommend a UK based place they've used.

p.s. I don't think Sony will take it as its from Hong Kong

thanks

My advice would be to buy an Xbox 360.

or flog it on ebay and buy a slim

Edit: a company like this? http://www.hanger.org.uk/h/hangershop/products/PS3-YLOD-Yellow-Light-Of-Death-Repair-Service.html

no chance. get a new one, that's what i did when i had ylod on new year day.,
called playstation cust serv. and was told it's gonna cost about £150

I did get a new one, but it seems that most (decent) internet places charge £60 to fix, and i could probably get that back and another £100 by then selling it on as its a white PS3.

so i take it not many of us have taken the chance on a fix?

In no way is this meant to strike up a PS3 vs 360 debate but why haven't Sony acknowledged the YLOD issue and offered extended warranties like MS did with the 360's RROD?

It would seem, by the amount of the posts on here, that an early release PS3 is as inevitable to fail as the early 360s.

The numbers aren't comparable.
3 year old PS3's fail, 360's less than a year old were failing.

No - fact is it's an inherent fault. Remember when it was on Watchdog? - Sony should've acted like Microsoft did.

I don't think its as common as the Red Ring, despite the eaggerations of watchdog. It may also be down to circumstance of where the playstations put.
Mine was fine, no problems ever going on 2-3yrs up until i borrowed it to a friend who left it on a carpeted floor and im guessing this didnt bode well for the fan vents.

anyways, any suggestions of places??? some HUKD'er must have done something at some point!

I too have been in your boat and have just ordered a UK 250GB slim. I sent mine in to http://www.playbackups.com/ who did the YLOD repair for £65 inc collection and delivery. Comes with 3 months warranty on repairs, but you must foot the additional postage costs!
Beware though, i wouldn't recomend this company as my 60GB Hong Kong phat has now YLOD again within 2 weeks of recieving it back. Decided to try a new local games shop that opened up in town, to get it repaired for £40. Turns out the original attempt at repair by playbackups.com was a shoddy effort, with screws missing, cables not attached properly etc.

If you want your old data back i'd suggest using playbackups.com, before getting rid....

Others i have heard about are http://www.consoledoctor.co.uk

Though it seems 2weeks is the most you will get out of these lot aswell...
