Hello All {big cheesey grin}:-D

im looking to sell my Wii seems theres a huge hype and i never play it (CEX.co.uk £220), then i was going to use the funds to buy a PS3 (obviously adding cash)

iv never played on one nor have i seen the game play, but just fancy one :whistling: All i need to know is...are they any good ? many GOOD games out ?

And if i do buy one, which ? why the need for huge hard drives ?

iv got a 360 which im never off (lost planet / fif08) and love it, is the PS3 better than the 360 ?

iv got a 26inch samsung HD TV so i would benifit from the amazing graphics

Any help would be super :w00t:

p.s theres Rep on the go

i never used my 360 in a year. had the ps3 a few days and loving it, though its as much fun as my wii. Changed all titles i want from lovefilm to bluray and the picture is amazing.

I don't think you'll get impartial advice on this......you'll probably get different opinions from both camps.

Bottom line is - if you have the money and you want one, sooner or later you'll get one, so it might as well be sooner......

Mum bought me one for christmas yesterday- truthfully never played on one - but didnt want a new 360.

If you want to play ps2 games and want 4 usb ports instead of 2 then get a 60gb one, if not then get a 40gb one since its cheaper.

Is it better than a 360? At the moment i would say it is not better than the 360 however i don't think its worse. I doubt it will just sit there like the wii as there is a few great games that are out now and coming out soon like ratchet and clank and Metal gear solid 4.

If you have a 360 already,i cant see much point in getting a ps3 (unless of course you have abit of spare money or you want to view HD films without buying a add on player)
#11
people i know use there 360 more then the ps3 due to the lack of games. Although you got a 360 then you mite aswell get one.
#12
I have a Ps3, two of my flatmates have 360s (which i used to play before i got my ps3). I think the xbox is fine as a console and i had fun playing it but i got a ps3 to use for the Blurray as well as the console and i love it.

i just saw your title am am really tired so didnt read the rest of what other people said. but LMAFO @ PS£, get a 360 :|

360 has more games, if you check the games that are out on both PS£ and 360, you will see that the 360 has the higher ratings. I would get a PS£ in about 5months when it actaully has some games worth buying, or mabye when you could invite a friend to a online game:|

I found the PS3 to have a better output both in terms of audio and graphics (and it fully supports Dolby 7.1 HD and HDMI out of the box). Tested it on both SDTV and HDTV and my opinion remains the same. Also, Sony are making much better use of the hard disk than MS which reduces loading times and makes it more PC like. It's also much quieter and far more versatile in terms of being able to add custom software e.g. an O/S. Proprietry devices are not enforced either e.g. you can use any bluetooth headset, keyboard and mouse and even any hard disk. The XMB is actually a pleasure to use if you have any experience with Sony products and it's a lot more intuitive in my opinion compared to the Xbox version by having a clean category system with icons and semantically is in the right direction. Sony also have been adding lots of updates to the system of late which is nice. Online play is also free of charge. "Home"- Sony's online community is also in the works and is looking promising so far- looks far nicer than any other offering on any platform at the moment. And last but not least, the hardware has proven to be far more reliable than MS offers and there is even a blog online where someone tested it in multiple extreme conditions and the machine remained unaffected- didn't even crash. Xbox however now carries a 3 year warranty on the dreaded 3 lights of death due to too many users experiencing this problem at some point. Basically, you are getting a lot more for your money if you add up the various features integrated into the system compared to the Xbox.

I really thought Sony would sink with this machine and I fully backed MS. However, I think Sony really have produced a very nice next gen machine so I retract my original stance.

Damn that was long =P

The PS3 is great for bluray and being a multimedia centre, you can store videos, images and music on it or just stream them from your computer. Online play is free, and Home is being released early next year which will be absolutely great!! Plus, although there aren't too many great PS3 games out at the moment, next year there will be loads of great PS3 exclusives out, here's a list.

With so many great games out only for PS3 next year, I think now would be a good time to get one, but apparantly a 80GB or 120GB PS3 will be released around March or April next year to coincide with the releae of Metal Gear Solid 4, but I don't think it will have any new features other than just having a bigger hard drive (you can always just swap your 40 or 60GB hard drive for a bigger one anyway, and apparantly it's easy and there are youtube videos on how to do it, or you could just add an external hard drive through the USB port).

As to whether you should get a 60GB or 40GB PS3, it's up to your preferences really. If you have lots of PS2 games or plan to get a few in the future then the 60GB would be better but if you don't really want to use your PS3 for PS2 gaming then a 40GB should be sufficient. The only main differences between the two are that the 60GB is backwards compatible and has 4 USB ports, whereas the 40GB is not backwards compatible and has only 2 USB ports. Good luck with whatever you do

As your a Mackem and I want you to waste your money, I suggest buying a top of the range Atari 2600, The likes of Pong and Pitfall will look fantastic on your HD TV.

reasons i sold my 360 to get ps3:

- 360's tend to break (ive heard)
- online play is free on ps3
- blue ray, wifi and bluetooth standard
- web browser
- its quiet

think game developers have turned a corner for ps3 and should be some good stuff comming out

i found a deal on my pal 40gb ps3 for 249 delivered new (they most likely didnt charge vat or something)

I may get a ps3 when the exclusive games come out,but then is if really worth spending that much just for a few exclusive games.

I would only go for:
Time Crisis 4
MGS4
The Getaway

You could always use the money to get a bigger TV

WOW

went to bed and suddenly everyone has an opinion haha :)

i have a 360 and love it, but in the past i have always had playstations

Thanks for all your comments, im still undecided :)

Best bet? find someone with one and try it out. You'll either love it or hate it.

The PS3 is a good allrounder, the graphics a slightly better than the 360, although they say that the real potential isnt being used as the games are not up to the same spec as the console. When the games fully utilise the power of the PS3 it will stand head and shoulders above the 360.

oh, soon you can add a pvr system to the ps3...thats still happening right?

Has already happened sometime ago. But nothing official of course.

And also forgot to add another important point- there is no bulky power supply to haul around on the PS3.

i would guess so.anything is possible with software downloads and having an internal hard drive.i think sony will release bigger hard drives next year internal and external.i think the machine is here for the next 5 to 7 years.it can be upgraded so easily for free with new software updates.people are starting too realise that its not just a games console it is the ultimate entertainment hub for the home in so many ways.
#29
sony dont need to bring out any other hard drives as a standard 2.5" sata drive will fit very easily. You dont really need any kind of technical know-how, just a philips screwdriver :)
#30
its in the manual it tells you how to change it. so it wont void any warrantys. also changing os wont void waranty.
#31
so whats the largest capacity hard drive that will fit and how much would it cost?

250GB at £100+

There are also 500GB drives (a bit more rare) and in Japan there is an add-on to push it to 750GB.

That's a very good price. Worthy of its own thread I would say.

Read this:

http://smallurl.co.uk/?1906

Advantages ps3 has over 360 from the top of my head:

No power brick
Very quite compared to the 360
Wonderful up scaling DVD playback
Wi fi and Bluetooth built in
Wireless controllers have built in charge kits
Blu-ray built in out of the box
Free online gameplaydrawbacks and 'can't fin
Cell processor
True Dolby sound
Larger disc space could be a major factor in being able to produce next-gen titles (Blu ray)

360:

Generally a better comfortable feel to the pad but all down to p.preference.
xbox live generally way more expansive, interactive and fun than psonline
Currently has better line up of game collection
Games rarely have issues with framerates, very devoloper friendly
A lot cheaper

There is no better system, all opinions are subjective, each system has its minuses and pluses
