PS3 techie help needed (again)!

I am losing patience with this machine fast!

I have connected the ps3 to my LG tv using a hdmi cable. Problem is the screen keeps flickering off for about 5 seconds every 30 seconds or so. Asked for help here yesterday and was advised to switch the hdmi cable setting from auto to custom on the PS3, but that has not sorted it

What is wrong with this bloody console!

Have you tried a different cable?

just read this on another site

-unfortunately it didn't fix it. I tried a whole heap of rewiring options also, but nothing seems to stop the flicker. I contacted LG and they were aware of the problems with flicker and strange audio in their later model tv's, and believe it is a communication problem between the PS3 and the tv. At least I'm not the only one with the problem. They have no fix for it at the moment. It does seem to stop when the display output of the PS3 is set to 1080i. This may have to do for the time being."

tried setting it to the 1080i option but didnt make a difference. Dont have another cable to test it out on, but the cable I bought is new from Amazon so unlikely to be faulty?

doesnt matter where it came from it still could be faulty. the port at the back of the ps3 could be faulty, the interior of the ps3 could be faulty even!

bloody hell, so I've got to buy more cables to rule out what the problem is?!

well its a possibility...or send that one back and say its faulty and get a replacement...

no:x

Thats a shame as that would rule out it being the ps3 or not or even the cable!

right, ill send the cable back saying its faulty.

it could be your tv, the ps3 or the cable.

TV - do you have another HDMI socket to try with. Old HMDI sockets can detatch from the mobo.
PS3 - do a reset of all settings. turn off the ps3 and hold the I/0 switch until it beeps a second time and it will be reseted to default screen settings. Then setup auto HDMI to best settings
Cable - borrow a cable from someone, or as last resort buy a cheap one from asda or somewhere.

I'd them in that order.

i know that, i switched to the different input on the tv and cables etc

I plugged in the hdmi cable again and the picture is still coming through that with the flickering, so how do i set it to the component for good?

figured out how to change it now i think

There is one other thing I can think of to try if that doesn't work...I had a simlar problem with my PS3 and Samsung TV...basically I went into the display settings menu on the PS3, and manually configured it so it will only use 576p or 1080i - I realised my problem was the 'handshake' between the PS3 and the TV when it was 'broadcasting' at 720p...

...so you could play around with those settings...
