More than likely a stupid question, and there is more than likely has a obvious answer but any help would be appreciated

Converted a AVI file into a mp4 using ps3 video 9, wacked it onto my memory stick and tried to transfer it on to my ps3 with a usb flash drive...the PS3 recognised the stick but would not show that the video file was on the usb drive? co i could not copy the file....

any ideas were i am going wrong?

With the updates, the PS3 should play avis without converiting.

Anyway, put the usb in, press triangle and show all and your video should show.

No need to convert to mp4 as ps3 plays AVI files (DIVX).

The USB stick needs a folder called VIDEO with the video files in

Folder Structure for PS3. All folders have to be in UPPER CASE

----MUSIC
----PICTURE
----PS3
> ------EXPORT
> ------OSOTHER (Used with Ubuntu install, yellow dog linux does not require this)
> ------SAVADATA
> ------THEME (Put themes you want to install here)
> ------UPDATE (Put Systemupdate here)
----VIDEO

Agree with all above to an extent but not really needed. Just navigate on screen to the video section of the PS3 and Initially when you put the usb drive in, it is recognised but has no files.
When you press the triangle you can force it to reveal all files. Then just navigate down to your video, press play and there it is.

How would I get my PS3 to pick up my external hard drive through my wireless network?

I have 3 PC's in house, all can access each other files, do I need to do anything different to enable PS3 to pick it up? Windows Media player has sharing enabled.. :?

TIA

(Sorry to use your thread NEV, saves creating a new one!)

Go to network and sharing center and then to "customise" under your wireless connection
Change the location type to Private and under "sharing and discovery" turn network discovery on.
Go to "change" under media sharing, your PS3 wont show up untill you search for media servers on your ps3 under music video etc.
Click OK and then it should work
