PS3 - Wired Internet Connection

I've just brought my PS3 back to uni, but can't for the life of me get it to connect to the internet. I've had it here before and it has worked fine.

I've just got an ethernet cable coming out of the wall. If I plug it into my laptop, it works fine. I plug it into my PS3 and the connection test fails at trying to get an IP address... any ideas?

Yeah. I do it once and it lasts ages though. The thing I don't get is that before xmas I had it at uni and I didn't have a problem...

Have they blocked PSN? Sounds like it may be that.

Has the uni blocked the internet for games consoles? Ours does.

I've just facebooked a friend in the same accommodation who has his PS3. Fairly sure his still works as he signed in two days ago - I can't imagine they'd have changed anything over the weekend...

If ur laptop has wifi then you wouldnt need to buy anything else. Just make a wifi connection from ur ps3 to ur laptop and then share the internet from the cable port.

Or it could just be that ur ps3 has the wrong settings in or something like that.

I think you may need to edit the MAC code on the PS3, had to do this with the xbox to make it work with the ethernet cable.
