AFAIK, The PS3 is wi-fi ready out of the box, So it should be as simple as inputting the password key (Hopefully!)

No - ps3 has an inbuilt wifi thingy - so as long as you have a router and your lappy and 360 work its fine

If in doubt google it
#3
what password key?

If your router is wireless then it should have some sort of security, WPA and WPA2 are the most secure, So to access the network you'd have to input the network key/password.

Sorry for any confusion!

So there is no security at all?

So you didn't need to use any password to connect the wireless laptop or xbox 360 to your router?

If so thats not secure, Any neighbour could connect to your network, Someone in the street or in a car etc.

Sort of, But they can gain access to stuff and change it etc.

Not only that but someone could be abusing your connection, Possibly for illegal downloads (Not just illegal music/software, Child pr0n etc ) and it all comes back to your ISP/Address, So you'd get the blame etc.

What make/model is the router?, Its simple to secure a network, Takes around 5 mins normally.

with a sophisticated bit of kit which is easy to get now they could view bank details or whatever. Although imo if a hacker is gonna have the software to do any damage in your network then theyll find it all too easy to break almost any encription- believe me when i say its easy
#18
its a 'peak' router

fox2020 - i like it!!!!!!!!
#19
Id suggest just connecting the ps3 online via ethernet that way nobody can attack you

#25

#26
i get as far as the page asking for a network key, buy it wont let me enter anything, when i do, it says, must be 8-13 letters .................. eventhough what im typing is, it still wont let me do anything, this is making me head hurt!!!!!!!!!

this aparently is something to do with wep (?)
#27
plus dell is managing my wireless thingymebob, is this ok?
#28
Go into Network settings on the PS3 main menu and then it will automatically detect your PS3, just choose automatic for everythign for now. You can optimise it later, once done you can assign the WPA key thing from router setting on the PC. I do this by going to www.routerlogin.net

They don't need to be sitting outside your house to steal your connection, Routers boost the wireless signal so strong the neighbours 4-5 doors down could get a signal.

Unless you house is detached in the middle of nowhere, Than for the sake of 5 mins i'd secure it.
#31
Sorry Hocka, I can't really find much information or even a user manual on that router.

Do you have the PC cd-rom that came with it?, There should hopefully be a user manual on that.

I agree. I have secure wireless but know that others in my area don't, I can connect to theirs from my living room!

they dont boost the signal that much at all, come on man...

Well the signal won't be that strong, But yes, Routers can and do boost the signal that far.

My router is wireless and I can actually still access the internet about 40-50 foot away from the house!!
#35
wow, i will go the the store where i got it from and see them abpout it, they are pretty good there, thanks anyway iom-rf, appreciate your help, clare xxx
