PS3 won't turn on

OH was playing COD online & the screen just froze it beeped & the red light came on. Now it won't turn on & the disc is stuck inside.

When you press the on button it just flashes green then goes to red & it beeps 3 times. Booklet is useless it, it just says it's overheated & to leave it to cool but this happen last night & it was left unplugged all night & it's still doing the same now.

It's way out of warranty, any easy fix or is it repair job for an expert?

thanks for all of the suggestions, already tried all of those nothing worked.

We have now took it apart & have managed to get the disc out of the drive but we are still left with a dead PS3, do we have any options with Sony regarding repair or is it a case of buying a new one?

sony may fix it they had to do ours but as its out of warrenty they charge to fix it, we have had nothing but problems with ours since getting it back from them, been sent off twice and broke within a few months. they finally replaced it with a new one yesterday

Do they quote a price before you send it off or once they have looked at it?

Yeah you may be right, don't think OH can wait a week or more anyway, he needs to play COD now!

Could always look at getting this repaired later for our son to use or even seeing if anyone wants to buy it for spare parts.

I've had two replacements from Sony. Both lasted roughly the same duration, 10 months. The second time Sony fixed it even though it was 8 months out of Warranty. Both similar faults, failure to play discs.

So basically I would try Sony to see if they will fix it for free although they might be a bit funny if you have opened it.
other than that I would try fixing it yourself although do this at your own risk!, there are youtube videos about this fault although obviously it may not be the same. I would certainly do this with the intention that you were going to purchase another one anyway.
#14
Also my friends broke after a replacement? Their replacements don't seem to be any good?
#15
That doesn't sound very good about refurbished ones via Sony, I think it's going to be a new one then

I did find several things on youtube about how to fix it but it's way beyond us, it even featured on watchdog as well, they had a van parked outside Sony HQ in London fixing them for people :w00t:

Don't suppose anyone wants to buy a YLOD PS3 for spares & repairs do they?

How old is the console?
Where did you purchase it?

If you bought it new, have a read of the "Sale Of Goods Act", and take it back for a repair/replacement.

At worst, they'll tell you "No dice".

Not sure I'd have the guts to walk into the shop & do that, I'd be too  if they said "No"

Can't see that part in the S.O.G.A, can you point it out?

So now the warranty stickers gone...

Prove they havent caused the damage themselves internally:roll:?

Now their word against the retailers.

who knows? someone with little experience with electricals could easily cause some damage.

A sticker saying DO NOT REMOVE isn't there for novelty.

Well done, but why were they opening it?

Does this sticker have any standing in British law?

Don't think you can patronise me Bruce.

They still didn't need to open it, when fixed the disc would be returned.

But...who would fix it? I thought you were saying that they wouldn't touch it? :?

OMG didn't mean to cause an argument!

The warranty sticker is still there but it is obvious that it's been removed that's why I wouldn't go back to the shop with it.

The reason we opened it is because the COD disc was stuck inside & all the OH was bothered about, was getting the disc out so that he could play it again, there was no way he was sending it anywhere for repair with the disc still in it, he has been wanting to get a Slim anyway, so now he has the perfect excuse to go & buy one.
