PS3 YLOD repair

Hi

Other half has had his PS3 about 3 plus years and over Xmas it packed up he believes it is YLOD. Anyway after throwing a paddy he went and bought a new one (been thinking about it for a while anyway).

My question is how much to have it repaired as my son would like it for his bedroom?

Or if I sell as is how much?, I think it is a 120 after an upgrade.

Thanks

Even after a fix, it will only work for a few weeks.

Sold mine on ebay as faulty and got £80 for it . You could do that or get it refurbed think Sony charge about £100 to fix it or you could watch the videos on youtube which show you how to fix it yourself.....

If Sony fix it is it a long term fix? I see companies offering to fix them for 50-70 but if it's only going to last a few months at best why bother?that's why I'm wondering if sinus fix is better, if so it's worth paying extra.

My lad has a white PS3 the old style one and it stopped working so I just got him a new one to keep him happy. If I can get it fixed it would be a good spare, and it's a bit unusual in white with the white controllers too.

Hello ive been fixing ps3's with this problem for a while god money maker.. hes correct sony will charge you 100 pound and you will get a refurb.(note you will only get this if the warranty sticker does not say void) what GB ps3 is it? If you get it fixed it could last another few years, it depends on how badly it is damaged.. if you do pay the 50-70 pound make sure they REFLOW it and put THERMAL COMPOUND on it. If they just reflow they will remove the existing thermal compound, therefore will only last 2 months.. depending on what the ps3 is you are likely to get between 20-60 pound for the ps3 on ebay. If your interested in fixing it yourself let me know and ill tell you the videos you need to watch to help you and the materials you will need. cost you about 10 pound and 3 hours of your time as your a newbie. good thing about doing it yourself the left over materials can be used if it happens again. also if your worried about taking the warranty sticker off as it will say void. just heat it up with a heat gun and u can peal it off without voiding it.

Incorrect. Sony do not give a hoot whether the warranty sticker is intact, and they will charge £131.

What machine will they send back? I would like a white one again but doubt they would send one would they?

Interested in fixing it myself and doing it properly so any videos instructions tips and list of what I need would be good!

I got the ylod about 4 months ago - **** myself as it gad a rental bluray in at the time. But I found a video on YouTube where u heat up the ps3 with a hairdryer in a box and then let it cool down - amazingly it worked. Been using it ever since - I know it won't work forever but gives me time to save up for another .....

Sony UK won't touch your console. Sorry.
Search for "Gilksy" on Youtube.

Dont want to upset anyone or stir up a hornets nest... but is it possible there's a conspiracy taking place???

You are the fourth YLOD victim I have heard of today on HotDeals... My console got YLOD yesterday and "Waxxy" and "nightshot" have also fallen victim to it. Also "ganon" commented that his mates PS3 has just stopped reading Discs!

I had taken the blow of YLOD quite well, but now I am starting to think something fishy is occuring... possibly having something to do with Sony. Could it be possible? If you search the internet on the subject of YLOD (requesting results posted during the first few days of 2011), you may be left wondering the same

Someone call Dom Littlewood quick!!!

Edit: 182,000 results from Google for "YLOD" in a time period of the last 7 days!!!!.... Time to call Sony folks!
