First you need to work out what version it is. I have done a few this way.

Upgrade to 3.5 (if its above 3.5 I am at a bit of a loss. Sorry)
use easy 3.5 downgrader to 1.5 using lumines game.
Then upgrade to 3.40oe. This can only be installed from firmware 1.5 or any other version of OE.
Then I upgrade to 3.71 M33 Firmware

Thats it. You can then play Backups of your games from a memory stick. No need for any extras like devhook any more. Just put the ISO's/CSO's in a folder on the memory stick.

And you can still run homebrew stuff that you could on a 1.5 PSP.

Hope that helps.

If it's above 3.50 FW you can always downgrade with Pandoras Battery if you have another psp handy

right, first things first, DONT tell people to update directly to 3.50 and use the Lumines exploit, there are still loads of PSP's about that are 2.80 or less, if you are lucky enough to have a system with that kind of firmware you will have no need to buy an extra game or a magic battery and memory stick.

J9STL: if you get a PSP and are not worried about getting the Slim and Lite version you will have more luck getting an older one, if you get one second hand ask around on this forum, many people will sell a PSP that is pre-modded, prices depend on what is with it, I sold one the other day to the General for £70, pre modded and in excellent condition (that reminds me, have to see if his cheque has cleared and send it:P)

if all else fails, or you get a Slim and Lite version I am more than happy to do the downgrade for you, either post it and include enough for me to send it back, or meet me in Ipswich.

Hope that helps,

Mike..

Quick question mate how is easy is the downgrade on a slim psp from 3.71? ive done my fat one (from 3.52) using pandora's battery, been on dark alex's site and it looked abit more risky. its for my sister and i could do without buying her another. ive still got the pandora's battery from my fat psp can i still use that?

Does it really matter wheher I get slim or fat?
Will keep an eye out for any PSP offers coming up, but...........
Just got a car bill for £400 this afternoon, so I guess that will have to come first.

yep, if you still have the pandora battery and the memory card you made for the "Phat" you will be able to do the one of your sisters, you just have to change a few files around (I can send you my own personal link for them later, now off out).

I never said he HAD to do it that way. I was just trying to explain how "I" do it.

Was only trying to help.

@MikeBeaver & the-jackal -or anyone else who can help
I've seen there are a couple of psp's for sale on here, however they are fat one's (I think with 3.52 FW or something). Am i better off getting the slim one instead of fat? Are there any differences between them? Which is easiest (which FW or indeed, which machine?) to drag & drop iso onto a memory card and play?
One last thing, if I buy a band new slim for £130, how easy is it to mod then revert to original (in case of warranty issues).
Still got the car bill, but am dividing my time between here & mondeo forum looking for inlet manifold info....

if you are gonna get some one to use a pandora battery for applying custom firmware then it wont matter which you go for (slim or Phat) but if you intend on doing it yourself then the Phat my be easier as it has many more exploits available to it.
Once on custom firmware you can drop your iso right on to it no matter what version of the console it is, it just depends on what features you are more interested int, the Phat has ir support and some of the older homebrew will only work (well) on it, the Slim has a nicer screen, is lighter and has more RAM, but also doesnt run the 1.50 kernal, so homebrew support isn't quite their fully yet.
As for returning it to its normal state if faulty, not a problem (although that will depend on the fault!) but agaon, the pandora battery is the prefered method for doing that.

hope that helps mate,

Mike..

No probs mate.

@ OP, I prefer the phat PSP to the slim as its easier to handle. The slim is just that bit too small for my big manly hands to cope with. :w00t:

and as Mr Beaver quite correctly pointed out trhe phat one is easier to hack and still supports 1.5 for most (not all) homebrew.
