Purchasing a Netbook in Barbados..any info please? tax/customs etc

Hi,
I'm off to Barbados in 2weeks and wondered would it be worth me buying a netbook there instead of here?

I have a Acer Aspire One but having issues with it so I may return it.

I did a Google search but could only find a store that sells Dell laptops and computers not the mini 9 plus it doesn't really give any prices.

Anyone have any experience of buying products from the US...like import tax etc.

Thanx

Note the keyboard will be a US keyboard not a UK one (different characters in different places).

The software may be "set up" for working in the USA and not UK.

The mains plug will be different.

The wireless may be set up for US and not UK.

If it goes wrong you may have trouble getting support in the UK.

You may also get clobbered for tax if they catch you (and maybe a fine on top of that as well for trying to smuggle it through).

I'll accept the offer of a fight then:giggle:
Barbados is not a part of the US, as suggested in the thread title; and it's in the Caribbean.

Hi everyone, wow so many reply's.

Thanx all xx

I put US in the title as it would be ''Dell US as apposed to EU or UK....checked their website for prices and I may be tempted to go for the new Mini 10 instead.
But also I put US as I think they have the same tax/export rules/allowances.

I can't wait, traveled lots of Asia but never been over that side of the world before.

We are staying 5mins from Paynes Bay but that doesn't mean much to me yet.
Good to know people have purchased items from there and had no customs issues. Like you say I will open it so it looks used ;)

I think this Acer is going back and I'll wait and see what Barbados has for me...woop !!

The keyboard thing maybe annoying though and the main charger will be 2 pin...I'll have to weigh it up with the cost savings I guess

Having looked into it....

If I purchased one from here to collect when I get there, they are more expensive due to the fact (I think) that they run on XP not linux.... Ooomph decision, decisions
Not sure if I should go for one from Dell Uk while the offer is on today.

For the charger just get a shaver adapter out of poundland.
Gd times.

Yep after all that the UK price is cheaper due to the OS. So gunner bite the bullet and buy the £179 UK version. Thanx for all your help
#28
Can't you just get rid of the packaging and pop it inside a small shoulder bag or satchel? Netbooks are relatively small.

How will they know if you purchased it there if you act like you already owned previously?

Thanx waterloo, were not staying in a resort (not really my thing) got an apartment so we will do lots of exploring. Can't drive which is a shame.....peasant waggon for us no worries ;)

Quick question though, do you think it is safe for 2 females in their 20's to be walking at night? Staying near Paynes bay..hoping they have beach bars to chill in. I used to live in Bankgok so i'm sure we'll be fine though
