Q: Car tax renewable : FORGET THIS - BUDGET MARCH 12th THIS YEAR! (doh!)

Hi all - car tax due end of this month, just got the reminder. Since the budget is sooner, should I wait in case my tax goes down (2nd smallest car group) or do it now?

I guess the big question is, on the day of the budget when does the new rate take effect? If it is the following day, I suppose I could wait until then and then leg it to the post office if it increases! Anyone in same situation??

Beat the Budget increase and do it online.

From their site: http://www.vehiclelicence.gov.uk/EvlPortalApp/

How does it work?
You tell us the vehicle. You will need either the 16 digit reference number shown on your renewal reminder, or the 11 digit reference number from your Registration Document/Certificate (also known as the Logbook) and your vehicle registration mark (numberplate).
For a new tax disc we check the vehicle is insured and, if applicable has an electronic MOT Test Certificate/GVT Certificate or entitlement to disability exemption.

Yeh, I get stuffed with this each year as well! I had thought about cancelling the tax for March and rebuying (ie losing a months tax in reality.)

I'm unable to book right now - as my MOT is at the end of March - so tax not covered during this period (yet!) I should get my skates on and do that now!

Cant beleive a 1600 Vauxhall Zafira is so expensive to tax! £215 last year. God knows this year!!!

not sure what you mean. My tax is due end March, and I can buy it anytime from 15 March onwards, so it will make a difference if I buy it on, for example, the 16th March or 28th if the prices change in the budget...

If the prices change then they will change from the 1st of the month following the budget

Oh, bloody hell - all this pain for nothing! The budget this year is march 12th! I was thinking it was AFTER the 15th! (last year was the 22nd I think!)

So that means this year, I have no choice. I pay the increase regardless. Sorry for all the confusion (it was all in my mind...)

Depends on your car!

I'm only £35 for a 1.7 diesel Astra, because it's an eco model with only 119 emissions.
