Im gutted, today driving through town, some quad bike and a trials bike were racing and messing around, the trials bike slammed his brakes on and to avoid it, this quad bike swerved and then hit the rear right hand side of my car, busting my wheel and literally ripping off my rear bumper. The guy fell off, rolled down the road, then got up, and jumped on his bike and drove off before I could get his numberplate!!

I phoned the police who were at the scene within 5 mins, they said the chances of catching them are slim.

2 things,

1, i am sure the quad biker was hurt cos he took a hell of a fall and
2, my insurance excess is £300, which is about £50 more than the damage of the car, is there any other way I can claim? cos the insurance company take it as my fault cos I dont have the details of the other party!

Life sucks sometimes! Sorry to hear that happenned.

My car was nicked a few years ago, at least the police came to see you they never came to see me whan my car was nicked. There is nothing you can do other than claim on your own insurance. Even if the quad biker was found the likelihood of him having insurance or any money unlikely

unlucky dude, hate pratts like this.

Just pay for the damage yourself will work out much cheaper in the long run

Would it matter if there was? There was CCTV where I was living when my car was nicked, but did the police come and look to see who stole my car? No! It affected my no claims but due to police nothing I could do

My car got broken into (crappy old style Road Angel nicked, £300 stereo left - idiots.), in a car park literally filled with CCTV, I went to the help point thing you see, and they said police have to ask for it. fair enough, told police, werent interested.

Now I'm not arrogant enough to think a single car break in is in anyway important to the police, but it was in a cinema car park known throughout the area as very bad for car crime etc. Not interested.

in all fairness, they said on the phone, they are treating it as an immediate response and they were there quick. THing is, the offence is quite a bad one, if they caught this geezer, im sure a ban and a fine would have been in order. Driving from the scene of an accident is not taken lightly, and doing wheelies etc isnt either lol! especially when my 6 month old was in the back seat. Im lucky he didnt smash the window.

Oh yeah I know - I wasn't suggesting mine, or any car break in was as bad as someone totalling your motor and legging it. Just the whole CCTV thing... its a total con.

Too late now but if there ever is a dispute, pretend you have an injury - back or neck - the police will soon be interested and come straight out :whistling:

Same here!
Great big tipper lorry pushed my car forward but we were on a busy roundabout so drove up the road and he was f'in n blindin at me n drivin right on my tail.
I videoed him on my phone n got the number plate etc but he turned off and i couldn't turn round n catch him in time.
Went straight to police station and reported it.
They said the video evidence could not be used and when the police contacted them, the company just somehow made up a tachograph and said the lorry was parked up at the time!!!

I ended up having to fork out for the repairs to my car myself.
Bastads!!!!

Nothing a bit of duct tape wont solve, and get the silver stuff it will blend in nicely :whistling:

Seriously though mate thats bad that the cctv is no good, round here we have been told that the £50k worth of cameras have been Out of order 6 months as they cant fund the repairs!

Just glad you and especially the little one are ok.

Spare a thought for the poor quad driver, you said he was injured. Those quads are not so easy to control.
#21
Phone the local hospital, see if anyone has come in with quad bike injuries.

Elementary my dear Watson! :p

Nah but seriously I would, phone and see if anyone had come in with injuries that might suggest they'd fallen off a quad bike or something, doctors tend to know what kinda injuries people have and where they got them.

Obviously dont phone the police if they say aye, just go down and smack the **** outta him til he pays up.

Looks like the clip on the inside of the bumper has just snapped, and it's a Punto for f's sake. Why didn't you learn from the 1st time not to let the *******s get away? Run them over good and proper so they don't get back up next time
#27
the bumper should just screw back on, looks worse than it is D.i.Y job and a new wheel trim

defo not worth an insurance claim mate!

police arent really interested in solving crimes these days it seems, even if it is as simple as grabbing the cctv camera video.......they seem to have other agendas although im not quite sure what?
#28
yeah i agree loks like a bit of D I Y and you`ll be ok . just get a GOOD glue :)

Agreed. The only way to stop these ******** are to run them over. They obviously didnt care about what damage they were doing to other motorists

LOL, when I crashed my Ford Focus (the car I had before I got my Beemer) I crashed that a few times and never stopped.

I don't stop for no one, people stop for me.

If they can't control the quad, they shouldn't be driving it on the road and the manner in which it was being driven sounds reckless. Aside from all that, even if it was an unavoidable mistake they should have stopped and exchange details rather than just run for it.

Admittedly I doubt having the quad rider would help that well as it seems possible they weren't properly insured.

And why exact;y would I care? I was badly injured and anyway, Dick Punto was in the way..

so you are the person then are you?

the comment about the fact that they are hard to drive, well, the person should not have been racing up a road with at least 100 pedestrians walking near it.

the blame was with the quad driver!

And, the damage, it does look like a clip has broken, but it isnt lol! Every mount that the bumper is connected to the car with has snapped, and the trim isnt just broken, the wheel has been smashed and dented. I know its only a punto, thank god it wasnt my mini, but its still a car that i use all the time!! :(
