Question about Bank Transfers

Well, I'm a little confused about this, since I've heard that it actually costs to do a bank transfer to somebody else - is this the case or not?

The way I'm thinking I'd want to do a bank transfer if I was going to, would be via my online banking - this question applies to both if the other person uses the same bank, and if the person uses another (for obvious reasons).

Thanks in advance :)

Personally, I've never been charged for this. I bank with Nationwide. And I used to bank with HSBC many years ago, and they never charged me either.

Go overdrawn by 2p, and that's a whole different story on charges :x

BACS is free, you may get charged if you use CHAPS because that is a same day transfer. CHAPS will cost around £25.00.

So would the bank transfer option in the Abbey online banking be BACS then?

Yes, if you need a CHAPS you will need to contact your Bank. BACS can be 'done' online or via the Telephone if you have phone banking.
I don't know how Abbey works but with my Lloyds and Smile Accounts, I click on 'Pay Bills, transfer funds or send money.
If in any doubt, please phone your Bank and ask.
