Recently, iv noticed that there are loads of first time post that have gotten Rep points on there first post. These posts arent even deals or anything just replies to deals etc.

How does that work out?

Well it's always possible for members who are mates to give each other rep for nowt..as we all know the rep system is open to abuse...this has been discussed before in other posts.

People start on one green square now....

i still don't get what makes you tip over from one green box to two...
#5
It depends on the weight of the person's vote giving you reputation paperclip :)

The best way to get rep is either to beg for it or to sulk that you haven't got any. This theory has been prooved over & over again!

You should get rep for just coming from Leeds paperclip...you have my total sympathy...the only way is up but can the cheeky chappy get you out of trouble...just maybe according to my Elland Road season ticket holder friend.....and on a serious note Leeds is a grand City I worked there for 11 years.

Another question on rep:When you view the latest rep received,it gives you the last 5 entries. At the left of the entries it shows either green or blue.Does this signify whether you have been given good or bad rep. Also is it possible to see a further history of rep received.:)

Green means your rep has been increased by someone with positive rep. Grey means their rep could not affect yours. And 5 is all you can see.
#15
Thanks for that emma, but what is the point then,in somebody giving rep if it can't affect the person they are repping.:?
#16
The point would be that you have to do something to deserve some rep, before you can affect others. If that wasn't the case, brand new users could give out neg rep anytime, with nothing to stop them.

EDIT - but I know what you mean... a lot of people don't know their rep has no effect...

Its an easy thing to overlook - I've only added to one or two reps since joining - simply because I 'forget'....Senior moment

I sometimes forget to give rep most of the time, i've created some new topics asking for help in buying some things, memory cards probably, but despite the generous help from fellow members i keep forgetting to either say thank you or give them a rep.

Then again i'm not around on here as much as i like to be.

Been thinking about this.....As some folks don't know that the rep they are giving has no effect, why is there not a message pop up to say that they can not give out rep as they have not earned the right to do so yet.Pretty much the same as the message that comes up if you try to give rep to somebody again and it tells you that you can't do so until you spread it around a bit more.
Just a thought.:)

I think it's fine the way it is, as it encourages people to get into the habit of leaving rep. I enjoy reading the thank you comments in my rep, many from people who have no rep, who have thanked me in this way.

Yes the rep system isn't perfect, as has been discussed before, but it's not the highest on admin's list of priorities just at the minute. :)
#23
Do you read your rep alot emma *wink*

*Just read it* ;-) AND I can read other people's too you know... ;-)
