Question about selling a new Samsung SGH-U600 Mobile Phone

Hi all, my friend received a brand new Samsung SGH-U600 Phone as a free upgrade from Carphone Warehouse, but she already has a nice Sony Ericsson and has given me the Samsung to sell (either on here or eBay).

My question is (since I'm clueless about mobiles!) will there be any problems selling this phone? Is there any way it could be tied to her account in any way? I don't want to sell it, then have the buyer complaining they can't use it.

She's with O2, so I assume this phone is also locked to O2 but is it likely someone will just take it and get it unlocked after purchase? There are a few documents in the box, but since it's brand new everything is sealed and I don't want to open any of it. As far as I can see there is no SIM card included in the box.

Would really appreciate any guidance from someone that knows about these things!

The phone will not be tied to anybody. You're free to sell it if you want.

Also, most O2 and/or Carphone Warehouse phones come unlocked. But you may want to open the seal at the buyers request just to double check, as I'm sure you know increases the value of the phone.

O2 would suit me - I would offer £35 delivered if you are interested.

Sorry mate - they sell for between £80 - £120 on eBay and since this is brand new I hope to get around £90 - £95 for it. :)

I've heard stories of unscrupulous sellers who sell their phones and then claim off their insurance for a new phone. The network operator will then (IMEI) block/blacklist the phone (as it's reported lost/missing/stolen), rendering it useless - in the UK at least. So, technically, the phone could said to be tied to someone in that way. Let's just hope your friend is honest about selling the phone and doesn't cause you undue grief this way!
