Are there any solar powered calculators that don't have some form of battery? I have seen several that are solar but have 1 battery also - maybe a back up? Thanks

The battery as you stated is merely there for backup when there is a lack of solar power - afaik they all have backup batteries.

I have a credit card sized solar powered calculator which doesn't have a battery, so yes, there are some which don't have a back up battery. Why?

some have batteries, some dont, some have capacitors that store up a little bit of charge.

I know the ones at school back in the 90's didn't have back up batteries. Miss mine's not working, look!

want to send them in the christmas shoeboxes but recipients wont have £ to buy batteries so no point sending them if they only work with batteries - if they have a battery but it is not used then it would be ok to send

good aren't they. Too expensive I am afraid - getting 8 boxes together so needs to be a couple of £ max. I am coming to the conclusion that bar the credit card ones that don't really do much they all have a back up battery

Seen these go to previously well off families who have a BMW in the drive, I'll skip being charitable.
