Question: Does any one have a memory foam mattress topper?

The OH is wondering about getting a memory foam mattress topper, but there's two questions that have come up.

Thickness: Is a 1" thick one OK, or should that be actively be avoided in favour of a 2" one? Does anyone have a 1" one and regretted they didn't get a thicker one?

Has anyone had a problem with their topper moving around across the underlying mattress, over the weeks. I think it's supposed to be a bit like the way a rug will gradually "walk" across a carpet.

And - Any good deals to be had?

I've never understood toppers, seems to me like a waste of time! Like, what will 2" of foam do? It's not going to be supporting you, the support will come from your matress underneath the topper?!?!? Pay that bit extra nd but a MF if you want my opinion...

3" is what you want. I just bought 2 mf pillows today.

The contouring effect of the foam is what makes them a good thing.

I'd spend a bit more money to get a 3" one, they will last longer too. You won't feel much with 1".

You need at least 2" and the mattress that's it's resting on should be on the firm side. If your mattress is sagging it will still sag with a topper on.

I bought a 3" memory foam topper a couple of years ago, when money was short and mattress was really in need of replacing.

It has been great and still going strong, it provides good support and I would only replace now with a full memory foam mattress.

So the 3" may be a bit dearer than the 1 or 2 but worth it for support, and perfect if your looking for a cost effective way or reviving a older mattress.

couldnt agree more. Bought one then bought another as they are so good. Really worth forking out the extra £80-£100 for a proper mattress then a topper. 2" will not be enough.

Are they worth it even though the prices keep going up?

supply & demand is driving the price up. Shows how good value they are but I would still pay the extra rather than have a topper.

Weeks?
WEEKS???
How often do you change the sheets? :w00t:
Or should that be "rarely"?

I've had a bad experience with one I bought off ebay, you can read about it here:
