Question for all you barbecue experts.

OK. I've just had my new brick barbecue range built ready for the world cup. I've bought 2 barbecues.
Picture one is of a barbecue with an oven that hangs with the fire tray sitting on top. There is a rack that sits on top of the fire tray and than a cooking grill that you cook on higher up.
Picture two is of a similar barbecue minus the oven. However, there is no rack over the firetray, just the cooking grill for higher up.
I want to know what the grill that sits in the fire tray in pic 1 is for. If it's important why isn't there one with the barby in pic 2?

Sorry, got barbys mixed up but question still remains. Why has one got a rack and not the other?
#3
High heat and low heat?
#4
What are we supposed to be looking for? The both look the same (aside for the oven/keep warm section).

To catch food that falls through, it isn't needed. We didn't buy a kit, just built our own, and bought a kit of just the trays.

yep - totally agree

depends if your "pro" or not.......its a safety rack for amateurs and women!!!!

Btw. Good call!! Just like the good ol days! I remember growing up in the 80's, having a bbq in the back garden and my dad inviting all the neighbours around to watch England...Good times!

The rack is to let air in under the flames helping it burn better. Not critical but worth having. The charcoal should be above the rack.

ppersonally i reckon its to stop all the drunks putting their hands into the hot coals - just the flames !!

Eh? You sure? If thats the case it again begs the question why doesn't the other one have the rack?

One has a rack sat on the fire tray, the other hasn't.

Barby is my domain. saves getting involved with the salad, bread and all the other stuff. :)

 but then that really does make me ask that age old question..............why on earth do men run for the barbie and take control of all the cooking like they are all of a sudden this magnificent expert in cooking - when in the kitchen they dont and cant boil an egg :w00t:

plus they always feel the need to put on a apron when doing the BBQ :prop:

Because on the one with the oven, not only are the coals needed to cook the food on top, they are also used to provide heat to the "keep warm" oven below it.

If you had a rack, although the coals would heat the food on top better, the oven wouldn't get as hot.

+ if you buy the one with the oven, it's cheaper in Homebase than Argos

wow thats looks fantastic Deek!

Because it doesn't take brains to flip a burger over...! It's a common mistake that men think they are actually good at BBQing. I on the other hand am an expert...!

Good point and one I hadn't thought of. got them both already, the oven one was £31.49 and the other about £18.

there is no fire in an oven so its easy for woman to control and plus theres also the fact that its outdoors work. the household works on that principle no?.......womans work is inside, cleaning, cooking, washing. where as mans work is outside like gardening and stuff to do in the garage or shed:) oh yeah and BBQ's
