Question regarding Vodafone contract and O2 etc.

Just wondered whether there is anything happening lately that means I can cancel my Vodafone contract earlier than February (when my 18 months will be up)? I'm doubting there is, but I thought I'd ask on the off-chance :whistling:

Also, there's one thing I'm most likely going to want to do, so was wondering if it is possible?

Namely I'd want to downgrade to PAYG and keep my current number - though if possible, it be O2 PAYG as opposed to Vodafone - my K800i was from Phones4U (as part of the contract), so I don't actually know if it's unlocked though (haven't bothered trying since I assumed it probably wouldn't be, but plus I still don't want to lose my number).

Thanks for any information people can tell me

Sorry to bump, but it's a question I'm really curious about :)

If you are tied in an 18 month contract, you cant downgrade to PAYG during that period.

You can port the number across to O2 network after the contract period by getting a PAC code from Voda.

Thanks - exactly how would I accomplish this though? Since I obviously wouldn't want to stay on any extra months once the contract period is up, but rather switch straight away - and it'd definitely be possible to go to O2 PAYG from Voda Contract?

Would I be correct in assuming that the PAC code would cost me something too though (if I remember correctly, isn't that code to both port my number over, and to unlock the phone)?

Thanks for the clarification :)

Give a month notice at the end of 17th month to Voda and get a PAC code @ the same time (which is free). Get a PAYG sim from O2 (a freebie sim will do) and call O2's customer services with the PAC code - your Voda number should be ported to O2 within 1-2 weeks.

BTW, PAC codes are valid only for 28 days from the date of issue.

Thanks - and to double check, is it likely I'd need to get the phone unlocked?

If you need to use O2 SIM, the handset should be unlocked. Check if the handset is unlocked by inserting a SIM from another network - if you get an error message its locked to voda :)
