My friend gave birth to a baby boy on wednesday night and I'm going down to see her later today.

My question is what do I get for the kid and what do I get for the new mum? I've never had to buy anything for a baby before lol.

When you just had a baby what would you have liked to get from a friend coming to visit?
I don't want to go with just the standard cards and chocolate.

Thanks

Mam, i'd of loved some nice bath stuff.
Baby, don't buy clothes, teddys etc, i would get something like a foot/hand mould kit :)
#3
All I wanted was chocolate! And a gift voucher for Mothercare would be a good gift if you don't know what to buy for the baby.

lol, dummy sounds like a good idea but the contraception would be a bit late.... don't they teach sex education these days :p :-D

clothes for the baby but make sure you get bigger sizes like 0-3months or 3-6months and flowers for the mum :)
#7
How about some nice flowers for the new mum and a pack of babygrows in blue for the boy? I love getting flowers and when i had my children it's amazing how quickly they grow out of babygrows or stain them by spewing all over them!

Either a nice outfit or teddy for the baby. Most people buy flowers for the mum, but some nice toiletries may be apreciated too. I would recommend a balloon too. :)

I find this thread sexist and insulting....... why is it just for mums?

have a look online, the best present i ever saw was a teddy in a big balloon, where are they from? a gift voucher to a certain photography studio for baby pics would be a great idea

Chesso!
Card and chocs are standard gifts. I would prefer to give something different, she's been going through a rough time. Her family and the dad haven't exactly been supportive.

Clothes, teddys, flowers ...BORING! Brain power used loads there...not! I like to buy original gifts, not what everyone else buys, therefore will stick in the memory a little longer....
Bath stuff like i said for mother, and something to keep for the baby, hence a mould kit :)

......and they have some lovely Mother's day gifts. For the baby buy a nice shawl or blanket. Good quality cuddly toys are nice too. Best thing anyone bought me in hospital was Coca Cola..I was gagging for it!

I wouldn't buy bath stuff for the mum, especially if she had a natural birth and has stitches.

She'll appreciate a tub of salt more than smellies.
#36
Even if she didn't have a natural birth, its advised not to use anything in the water....its obvious the bath stuff is for a later date!
