Depends when it was 1st registered. Although it is a 54 plate, it might have been registered anytime between Sept 04 & March 05 - so check out your log book.

The DVLA wont send out a reminder, if you got your car through a dealer, some "may" send you a reminder - it's totally up to you.

Some garages will also forward date your MOT if you get it done while you still have your existing warranty - again, each garage is different.

You can have a 13 month MOT, i do this.

Say its due to expire on the 5th april, you can go and get it done 6th march, it has to be a DAY LESS than a month if you understand what i mean?

Ok, ill simplify...

The Car i have just sold was due for its MOT on the 5th April 2007, i took it for its MOT on the 6th March 2007, got it passed etc, the expiry date of the MOT is 5th April 2008 still...

So it still has a 13 month MOT, and it doesnt cost any extra for it, i will always do this in the future, as it then gives you almost a month to play with if the car is knackered!

Or if you are selling it you can advertise it with 12Mth MOT at a high price (Well you never know) then, if not sold, re-advertise it at a more reasonable price, two - three weeks later and it has STILL got a 12 Mth MOT.

Finally, is the MOT due 3 years from the date of first registration?

spot on dio..I don't think the joshanna situation will apply to your first MOT..it will simply run for 12 months from when it's first tested...but joshanna's situation will apply if you renew the MOT early.
