I've bought a us DS lite for my son before and it posed little problems. I was wondering is the dsi the same? what about chargers and such? will a uk dsi charger work on it?

The DSi's are region locked, european DSi software will not work on it, the old ds games will though, but not much point if you cant play european games on them, unless everytime you want to buy a game you get it sent from the US, i wanted to buy my daughter one and send it to her in Australia but no point and i had to get someone in Australia to buy it there and send it to her

Unlike the DS the new DSi is region coded, so if you buy an american one it will only play american games. not ones bought in shops over here.

not a problem tho if you also import the games to get them cheaper, or if you intend to get a DSi compatible R4 type card, then you just need to make sure you download the US versions of the ROMs. you could still buy the english versions and just leave them in their pretty boxes.

I'm not sure about the DSi store, but I doubt it would stop you connecting and buying from it from another country. Chargers, should be the same, it fact I'd say it's very likely that the US charger with it will be a switch mode charger and would work fine in the uk, plugged into a 50p shaver adaptor.

The DS lite chargers from america aren't switch mode as I have one.
Don't know if the dsi ones are diff, I have to use a 240v to 110v step down plug to charge mine with the original charger from america.

Am I right in thinking this is the first region locked handheld console ever?
