I am getting very confused with many people at m school now. Are there actually any pro's for smoking? There seems to be more and more people smoking in my year and i just don't get it. Surely they can't just be doing it to look cool anymore and becuase they're friends are doing it? I was surprised by a friend today which i saw smoking who is an avid dancer and i was shocked to see it. She is more of a 'goat' if you like, not a sheep, she doesn't follow what other people do so i find this quite weird. I have never smoked and will never, i hate the smell of the smoke when i walk past them at the end of school. Is there something about it that i'm missing?

Could you state the age you started smoking at aswell.

:-)

A lot of girls do it because they are told it stops you putting on weight, And a lot of boys do it because they are stupid,

I started smoking at 17 when I went to work for John Players, true story, everyone was doing it so i will have to admit to peer pressure. Spent a few years smoking only on nights out and another few full time  have packed up twice for over a year each time and this time round it has been 4 and a half years, I HOPE this is it this time although I do still fancy one when I have a drink.

everyone smokes at high school, its just the trend. I remember before footie matches we used to sneak out of class to go smoke one.

Wait till the herbal craze gets going

before I give you the answer, let me say smoking has no health benefits, you're underage to smoke and I suggest you dont start either.

I was one of the most popluar people in school if not the #1 brah.

I smoked because:

It made me look hard
girls liked it
guys thought i was bad as!
It got me bere gyal

I guess thats why people @ your skool smoke it.

tip: wear a biker jacket and smoke to compete the look, thats why I done.

seriously, what looks cool about it?

I started smoking at the age of 12 when I started secondary school.
My mates did too, I guess as we were in a group, we all did it!
My Dad smoked at home too, which I guess didn't help!
I quit smoking the new year of 2007 :) and have been smoke free ever since!
I do miss it sometimes, but in the long run, does not do you any good at all.

Its your life and up to you , there is a saying though "live fast die young" which to me means if you want instant gratification through drugs etc you might pay for it later

I am not really surprised by these ages people are giving me. I know lads who started at the end of primary school and i asked them why and they said stress. They give very stupid answers like. There must be about 50 people in my year who do it (age 14/15 (but mainly 14))
#19
Used to be the same at my school. Some as young as 12,13. Never bothered me,have never tried one and im 24, its the smell that puts me off.

I think most do it to be cool and fit into their group of friends.

i started at 15 aswell.i would never encourage anyone to smoke.
I know its bad for my health, even the horrible pictures on the packets don't stop me.
Don't follow the crowd and take it up because ten years down the line you'll still be doing it wondering how you ever got started?!

I do because it relaxes me....and it looks cool

Loads smoked when I was at school, specially the girls, there was myself and very few other girls in my year who did not smoke at all. I've never tried it even later on in life.

Hmm.. As teens some of my friends smoked, cigs and whatever else.

It was "cool", part of the "scene" and an appetitie suppressant. I personally decided not to....

My husband smokes and his Mum, sister, brother, everyone in his family do too... I think because he grew up around it, it was pretty much the "norm" for them. He claims it calms his anxiety, chills him out.

None of our kids smoke anything at all, thankfully.

I have found it hard to tolerate at times, but then he doesn't smoke near me or the kiddies at all.

You're right there are *no* benefits to smoking tobacco. Don't start!!! :) x

Let´s be honest anyone who starts to smoke does it because essentially they are stupid. Everyone knows it is expensive and causes many health problems.

I started at 18 and.....

I gave up 8 weeks ago and would recommend anyone seriously wanting to stop to visit their GP and ask to go onto Champix. I gave up without any problems

You know it makes sense.

Some would argue that there a few health benefits that come out of smoking. Of course even if they were correct, the negatives outweigh the positives, but its worth a mention.

The link takes you to forces.org which seems to be the US equivalent of FOREST and, no doubt, also supported by the big tobacco companies. In the same way that you can always get a tame shrink to say that an evil psychopath is just "misunderstood", you can always find someone to find the "health" benefits of smoking.

Believe it if it makes you feel better.

I stupidly started with a couple of puffs at 11 because all but one of my mates did.
I heard all the horror stories and thought it a load of rubbish just to put you off, and said it could never happen to me.........................
2 years ago on a routine check up at the docs they found terminal lung disease...... bit too late now so I would say don't even bother.
