Questions on my Orange contract and handset recommendations

I am currently "negotiating" my contract with orange. It appears that i have been paying about 3 times more then I should have for 4 years! I am gutted. Anyway they have currently offered me 225 minutes and 100 texts for £10 a month plus VAT (don't wince but I was paying £30 for less then half of this!).

They will give me a free phone (which I don't need as I have bought one) - I never had a free upgrade from them in 5 years ( what an idiot!) They have offered me any of the following K80i, motorola v8 expresso, Nokia 2610, 3110 or 6086. These are probably all rubbish. Does anyone know aa phone that sells well as I won't need it so I may as well try to recouop some of my losses and I will then try to haggle for a better phone.

Rather long winded but to summarise

Is this a good package (I have to sign up for 18 month contact)? Is there a better one - not interested in any cash back schemes?

Are these handsets any good at all?

What handset should I be trying to get?

Thanks Fairy

"Fairy" I had a similar situation so in my anger Heres what i did,

I sent a letter to the Customer services manager informing he/she that i was utterly disgusted in the service that i had received.

Dear SIr/Madam,
I must express my utter let down by the customer service department over the last month since trying to re-negotiate my current contract. In the last "length of service here" years I would always consider myself an excellent ambassador for the "Orange brand " recommending countless family and friends to join Orange and benefit from there second to none coverage and customer services.
That is of course until the current date!
I have never upgraded or had my current contract reviewed to find if it is the best package available for me. I am sure if you review my bills over the last "length of service here " years you will find i have an above average spend and never defaulted on payments.
I really feel sorely let down by this offer of a "phone details here" and the fact that i am now required to enter into an 18 month contract. My concerns with the length of the new contract being if the phone develops a fault after the manufacturers warranted 12 months.
As stated i have previously been more that happy with Orange and the service you have provided hence my reluctance to seek alternative coverage with a competitor.

I hope you can appreciate my frustration and eagerly await your opinions on this matter,

Yours Sincerely,

"Your name here "

Within 2 days of sending this letter i had a call from the customer services manager himself.

I got the best Sony Erricson phone (available at the time ) and 200 free texts for life.

My monthly bills were halved and with the free texts a nice little bonus.

To sell any phone they offer i try for either Nokia N95 or Sony Ericsson K850i Both have 5mp camera and will return most money should you decide to sell.

Give it a try you never know. Good luck

Thanks - it has got to be worth a try. Do you have the address to write to by any chance?

Right they have stretched to a Motorola V8 expresso but wont offer any other better handsets - what do you think? The operator who was very nice said he did n't think it was worth me writing in as I am now such a low user.

There are some V8's on ebay for about £70 >£100 ish ( If you search completed listings )

If you really wanted to push for more - You could try the old 'can i have my PAC code' this is the code required to port your number to a new supplier. They usualy direct you to the retentions department for a final attempt to keep you with orange.

If you are unsure of which phone to ask for then best do some searching see what is selling and what would be worth keeping.

The package they have offered isn't bad 225 mins and 100txts with a V8 a tenner a month

Wish you luck with your decision.

Yes it is not bad but when I think what I have overpaid over the last years (I KNOW it is my fault but I hadn't realised how you have to ask for upgrade etc) then they have had about £1000 off me I need n't have paid so that blows all my hot uk deals savings for the next 10 years! I won't make the same mistake again.
