Questions regarding Sharm El Sheikh

I have been thinking about going to Sharm El Sheikh this year but had been put off by the fact that I would have to travel to London for the flights. However it has now been announced that my local airport will be offering flights to and from Sharm El Sheikh from November so I am considering postponing my holiday until then.

My questions are;

What hotel do you recommend?

I have been looking at either the Hilton Sharks Bay or the Concorde El Salam Hotel - I would prefer to be around the Sharks Bay / Naama Bay area.

Did you feel safe whilst you were there?

Lots of people I know seem to think Egypt is a rather "dangerous" country and according to some travel sites there is a risk of terrorism. Did you feel safe whilst there?

What activities / places to visit do you recommend?

Thanks

£790 for two adults? That is very good. I have been getting prices at around £800 each!

as a guy, i found it perfectly safe. but as a girl you may get targeted by single men wanting love and an eu passport.

tips are:never ever ever let a salesman pressure you. excuses dont cut it when trying to escape, just say no, and walk away. dont take anything handed to you, dont let them take you in to a shop. :) they know all the excuses "sorry no money", "sorry no cash on me know" etc :) i've spent over 4 years traveling around the world, everywhere bar the americas, and sharm was the absolute worst for haggling. expect to play hard ball :) at chemists over medicine, in supermarkets, in restaurants and bars even.

you want to stay as close to the main area as possible. some of the resorts are seriously far away, far enough that the taxi could make a wander in to town area an exspensive treat, and essentially meaning you would just stay in you resort all of the time

try and book some excursions online before you go, it can be way cheaper. but be careful as you might end up on a tour were they only speak egyptian and russian! (many russians go there). You can take day trips to jordan and israel, they are pretty cool but very busy days!

it is a nice place, have fun!

Thanks, I would be going with my boyfriend so I would be in safe hands.

I am looking at staying around Naama Bay and in all honestly, probably won't leave the resort too often. I did really want to see the pyramids but it would require a rather pricey flight and some dodgy transport so I have decided against it, maybe next time!

Well put. best advice is to go with a man. Royal savoy is a fantastic hotel for relaxing. I highly recommend it.

good post.

I was there in October and had a lovely time - people very friendly, weather amazing and the trips available were all reasonably priced too.

great place, try icelolly.com or on the beach holidays fo rgood prices
try the quadbiking, the gokarting, the horseriding in the sinai desert, scuba or snorkelling, try the hardrock cafe and the camel bar - roof
place is great, yep the haggling is a pain, just say no thanks and walk off, or ignore them like the russians do

I think I would just ignore them after a day or two!

Thanks, I will check out those sites.
