You have the right to withhold the refund pending the claim from the post office.. it just depends on how much you value your ebay feedback

Maybe they received it, checked tracking, saw that it's still in the system and are trying to scam you???? :w00t:

some posties just put it through the letterbox, so they recieve the item put a claim in, so they receive the money back

Hope its not the case but always a chance

How much was the item worth?

You need to wait 15 working days from when you posted it, after that its classed as lost so refund then claim the cost of the item from Royal Mail. Some buyers unfairly blame Royal Mail delays on sellers so you may get a negative or neutral feedback but try to ignore it and ban the buyer so they can't buy anymore of your stuff. Good luck

Whatever the truth is you will NOT lose out as it was the postmans responsibillity to obtain a signature for a recorded package... thats what you pay the extra for

True. I hope the buyer cooperates with you as I hate the new compensation scheme that RM run where the buyer and seller have to both do paperwork. Buyer could claim off paypal, get refund and then not fill in his part of the RM refund paperwork so seller loses out! Or maybe I have no idea what I am talking about and should stay quiet!

yep...just being a pessimist! :p

but what if it never got to the postman?

As potatouk states the item isn't classed as lost until 15 days after the due delivery date. Paypal know this, don't refund just yet. In the Paypal dispute area explain to your buyer that you will happily refund their money if the item is officially classed as lost but as delays do occur within the postal system the item may arrive shortly. Just ask them to bear with you and apologise for RM delays. Paypal give enough time to allow for items to arrive before allowing the claim to be escalated.

This is from the RM website
"We allow up to 15 working days for items to arrive, so cannot accept a claim for loss unless 15 working days or more have passed since the item was due to be delivered (10 working days for Special Delivery™ items)."

At times the RM tracking uploads have a delay / backlog at the moment it seems it is around 5- 8 days from when the local depot pass the info on to the processing site in Stoke.

The point is if you pay recorded you are paying to ensure your item is received by the buyer.

The fact royal mail's system shows it is still being processed means they know they have still got it... or think they have still got it.

whichever way you will be compensated

15 working days before you can claim against RM. As long as you can afford to refund and then claim i would do the refund just to keep the buyer happy.

The only problem with that is it it then arrives after you have refunded and within the 15 days, you are then out of pocket unless the buyer is honest (not likly on ebay) and repays you.

Sorry...I was just trying to point out that whilst the postman does have a responsibility to get a signature, what if he hadn't got the parcel in the first place...then he won't be able to get the signature.

I use recorded delivery so much myself and have still got a receipt for an item that still show as in the system but thankfully, through feedback, I know it has been delivered.

I send out hundreds of packages all by recorded delivery and you would not believe the amount of items that arrive but do not get a signature.

Unfortunately, you cannot track a package until it has arrived but then again you have to wait for the signature to be uploaded if the postie doesn't have a handheld device to take a signature. Plus unfortunately ebay is scam world and far too many buyers exploit RM's weaknesses.

I always submit monthly claims for the 75p fees back as the service hasn't been carried out.
