Afternoon all.

I have an Advent base unit here which has a HDMI socket.

I plugged a cable into the base and the other end into my plasma and turned the computer on, but nothing's happening on the tv.
The tv just doesn't recognise that there is anything connected via the HDMI, tried a different port and that didn't change anything.

Do I still need to use a pc serial cable as well or something?

Would appreciate some help please :-)

You will probably need to have the PC connected to a monitor as well at first until you set up the HDMI connection,

I'd think you'd need to go into the display property's and tell it to use the HDMI rather than the vga...

oh no, thank you peeps - haven't got a monitor cable :-(

Is the source set to hdmi on the tv?

Hmmm... wha'ya mean?

I have my PS3 and HD-DVD player connected fine, the TV only knows they're there once they are powered on.

We haven't used the PC base at all yet, so I guess it hasn't been set to HDMI output, as the others have said

Have you configured the computer to display through the HDMI?

No, the other posters have suggested that but I can't do that right now as I haven't got a PC cable to see what I am doing on the computer :-(

The problem is unlike PC monitors TVs with HDMI wont show a picture unless the pc is set to just the right resolution, So you need to somehow set the PC up and then connect to the TV,

Oh really? SO it's not just a case of seecting an option to 'HDMI output' or something?

Also a word of advice, if you have a Nvidia card like Geforce inside the pc thenHDMI wont have sound and many tvs dont have a sound input so you would need external speakers., all modern ATI cards have HDMI sound output so that would work.

Yes you should be able to select HDMi and it should set the resolution but you will need both connected at the same time to do this,

This is getting far more complicated than I expected
How would I know what graphics card I have? :?
It's an Advent QC-6003 and the box says:
Graphics: Onboard INTEL GMA X4500HD

Really appreciating your help :)

It means its built in to the motherboard and not a seperate one thats all.

Basically means it is """" for anything but basic usage but I think some onboard ones have audio out through HDMI.

Thank yoooooooooooooooooooouuuuuuuuuuuuuuu :-D

OH gonna try and borrow a wire tonight so we can sort it tomorrow, my lappy is a bit delicate for the kids, so would rather let them loose on an easily replaceable wireless keyboard and mouse :giggle:

just left some rep, TONY I think I maybe just left you a 't' as a comment by accident - but it was me anyway :-)
