Quick question - Can the PS3 or 360 manage 32 players online?

I noticed that in the pc version of certain games like gta 4 it supports 32 players online, but in the 360 and ps3 versions it only supports up to 16 players why is that?. I would have thought if the ps3 can handle 256 players online in a game like MAG it could surely handle 32 player online in other games!

Think theres a PS3 that has 64 players or so I hear. Not sure any multi-platform console game has that many players though. I think a pc is more powerfull and can support more players hence the cap on consoles

I don't think the power of the PC has anything to do with it, Joint Ops was handling 150 player games all the way back in 2004.

Fair enough...how many online players do u guys think we can expect to see online in a game on the next gen consoles with the likes of xbox 720 and the PS4 around the corner? I think it would be amazing to have 100 players or more online in a single game of GTA now that would be something!:w00t:

Yeh consoles can support many players 256 and beyond. its just creating the network to manage all these people that devs arent willing to do.

SA-MP can handle up to 500 players at once but it's rare for a single server to have over 150 or so, not sure how many Multi Theft Auto can handle but it's probably more.

These are both mods for the PC version of San Andreas (there are also multiplayer mods for GTA3 and Vice City).

a problem with that would be the people in the game with pathetic slow connections, it's hard enough to get a full game on mw2 without any red bar kids, never mind a game with 100 people

PS3 seems bad for that, I tried Street Fighter 4 and often it takes me a few minutes even 15-20 to get onto a match and even if I play the game for hours I might only see 1 player with a green connection added to this a lot of time players boot me right away, I have no bad rep.

With my 360 even many older games I can connect pretty much right away and get a smooth connection
