This is really worth a read if you use cashback site, as I'm sure nearly all of us do.
To sum it up, basically Topcashback (one of the big 3 cashback sites) were contacted this week by the advertising network they use to say that a competitor didn't like the fact that Topcashback were offering the same rate for a merchant that they were offering (Topcashback had decided to match by topping it up with their own money as they couldn't get the offer direct).
The network and Topcashback were obviously put in a very difficult position which has resulted in them not being able to offer the same amount of cashback for a particular retailer (even though they were paying for it themselves!).
I hope that others would agree with me that it is totally unfair trading practices to force a competitor to have a worse offer than you. I could certainly understand a cashback site negotiating an exclusive price for themselves, but if Topcashback want to top it up to match using their own money then I can't see the problem with that.
Whilst it's not been confirmed that this was Quidco, all the evidence points towards the fact that it was. I have yet to see an official comment on the matter from Quidco either so would be interested if someone has read one.
Thanks for taking the time to read.
