City today hosted a Show Racism the Red Card event in the City of Manchester stadium.

Around 100 school children were in attendance and took part in educational workshops and then a Q & A session with former players Leroy Rosenior (pictured above), Earl Barratt, Jason Beckford and Alex Williams.

The day was based around using football and the World Cup to combat racism.

Citys England squad members Shaun Wright-Phillips, Joe Hart and Adam Johnson have also been doing their bit to make sure the campaign gets more coverage.

Ahead of the friendly against Mexico the lads joined the rest of the squad and took time out from training in order to show their support

The anti-racist charity was established in January 1996 and uses top footballers to help educate and combat racism through a series of organised campaigns and events.

On their website can be found lots of ideas on how to fight racism, and information about the work the group undertakes, which ranges from holding events with football clubs all over the country, to running competitions for schools to enter, to producing DVDs where players and young people speak about their experiences of and views on racism.

I've spammed it too, although this is the official Racism Shown Red Card At Manchester City thread so maybe I was too hasty.
[mod]#9
And I've unspammed; see no reason for this thread to not exist (no City bias)

Really Wedge?
I know a lot of clubs that are trying to stop racism in football, this is a 'look at us, City are such pioneers for getting rid of the racist culture that exists in football, we are brilliant' kinda thread.

Should be in the footy banter thread as already mentioned. Not even topical. Racism has been about since the slaves.

OP I thought you put me on your ignore list already, or are you busy uploading the new picture of the list ready for the mantle piece and this forum.

funny but if this was another club I am sure it would have got some exposure in the forum, due reasons which there is no point in going into.. there is NO place for racism within football, and to that matter anywhere else .. what real difference does it make that City have done something positive.. hopefully other clubs will follow suit

Another Man City fan

Man City are the ones following suit, this isnt news.

I can only assume you havent seen this? http://www.oneculture.info/wp-content/uploads/2009/02/kick_racism_out.gif

No need to rave about how amazing City are when iyou couldn't be further from the truth. They don't do anything spectacular either on or off the pitch.

Anti-racism schemes and initiatives in football have been around for years. I thought I'd stepped into a time machine and gone back ten years when I saw this thread.

other clubs have done this and have been for a while, I know sunderland have been involved with them for at least a year now as my daughter took part in workshops in year 5 and she's in year 6 now.

I believe Chelsea have been involved for a couple of years too, so if anything this thread is just highlighting the fact that man city are one of the last clubs to get involved surely?

In any event, I ithought threads where a news story is just copied and pasted weren't allowed - or at least frown upon?

and your point is and yes I have .. so City have kept it in the spot light ..

perhaps your issue is with another user and so anything he posts is met with derision.. or perhaps are we talking bullying or is there a bigger issue

LMAO @ all the buffoons on here getting on their high horses. This is merely a piece of news about Manchester and the community, nothing for the trolls to all get excited about.

If you dont like the thread then leave ! As has been said before, if this had been posted about another club, or by someone in their little clique it would have been fine.

What a shame.

Clearly Manchester arent the first club to do this kind of thing but this is just a little bit of news as to whats been going on in the area.

I have never spoke to insomniac apart from today so no issue with him.

Bullying? Me? I told him that it should be in another forum or just in another thread on this forum and in reply got back "Shut up you p***k" when a simple 'Hello, nice to finally have a chance associate with you, thanks for your input I will correct my ways from now on' would have been more appropiate.

But I assume you missed all of this being a fellow City supporter.

'Mr potato head' has joined the long list of trolls who want to verbally abuse me, hence his 'hilarious' tags

I think you make some sweeping assumptions and generalisations, your issue is with another user, but obviously with the comments your tarring another City fan with the same brush, which is quite small minded.
I am all for a bit of banter about my club is I have heard all the chat before, after following them for over 40 yrs nothing is new , each user has his or her own opinions.. like its been said if you don't like the thread go elsewhere .. if your just here to insult me, if that's what floats your boat carry on

Where was the verbal abuse from me? You called me a "p***k" after I offered you advice so you response wasn't appropriate. Other users saw this until it was deleted (proving it wasnt appropriate).

Tags were not for comedy value but merely to help people find your epic thread.

Can i see the new picture with me on your ignore list?

Bascially if we all want a running commentary of every little thing that Manchester City do we would subscribe to a Manchester City RSS feed from their website or similar. We have no need to know every time Carlos Tevez takes a dump.

Sadly, i feel you are 'talking to a swamp' it seems while im around they'll always be trolls, keen and eager to come in the threads and make attempts at humour. Its a shame but its something Im hoping will be resolved soon.

By sweeping assumptions and generalisations I guess you mean just one, as in not plural.

I think its a pretty safe assumption too. Football fans usually stick together, I mean thats what supporting a team is all about isnt it? camaraderie and support. Not often you see a set of fans fighting between themselves whilst the opposite fans look on.

I didn't put any banter and have not offended you but if you were offended then please do not watch Bambi 'cus it does have some really hurtful stuff in it.

fans sticking together but views differ.. but in an adult world you might understand that, but there again I doubt it very much..

as for offending, not really you would have to get earlier in the morning for that, glad to see your choice of films matches your intellect ...HTH

Do you relly not understand how stupid it is to post a new thread everytime a football team does something? You do realise that Man City are not the only football club around right? And believe it or not, not even the only one in Manchester.

If there was more people like you on this forum the 1st few pages on misc would be full of threads like this

Blackburn realise they will never be top 4 club
Arsenal sign player over 12 years old.
Chelsea player Zhirkov decides he is good at Scrabble.
Agbonlahor sleeps for 8 hours.
Gerrard admits "I'm from Liverpool"
Rooney seen walking his dog near Lidl
Fulham enjoy annual conquer competition. Andy Johnson's head was the winning conquer for 4th successive year.

Absolutely pointless.
