Radio Control Car (NITRO) - Any recommendations?

Looking to buy a Nitro RC Car and have been somewhat confused by the vast choice - HPI, Thunder Tiger, Kyosho, Traxxas etc....

Im a total novice, so would welcome any advice or recommendations. Looking to outlay about £250 tops.

Have been looking at the HPI Firestorm or HPI Trophy 3.5 or Kyosho DBX ???
Not sure if 2wd or 4wd is better?

i can't recommend any as i've only had one, many RC but just the one nitro. A word of warning though, these things arent as easy as they look. Its not just put the special fuel in and off you go. I spent 500 on mine and couldn't get the bloody thing to start! You need to "lean in" the engine, which seems easy on paper, not so easy in person. The guy at the RC shop even had trouble. Once broken in they need constant care and adjustments too. That said, when mine did run, boy was it fun! Avoid Traxxas as they use, or at least used to, a battery starter, which is epic fail.

Ive got an acme conquisador or something like that, its in the garage now, but when i actually used it, it was fun. Absolute basterd to drive tho, I crashed it twice, Once one into a stationairy car at about 30mph, The Rc car, LITERALLY exploded everywhere haha! but once i got that all fixed and £30 later it was back up and running only to run into a rock, then another £20 of my hard earned money and it was back up haha they are fun and its my second nitro car

My advice is too look on ebay and try and find a second hand used one, thats already been run in and can be bought for under £100 just until you get used to these cars as they are very powerful and can do 40mph+ And then buy a new one as above when you are used to the cars

I've been looking on eBay, but the trouble is that I might end up with something thats been thrashed. Most for sale appear to have damage to the shell, or have been sitting idle in the garage for years.
I quite like the idea of running in the car myself. Plus.......for some reason on eBay, I seem to have 10% discount on all RC cars at the moment (not sure how long that will last). So....a new car is working out at less than £200 from MotorsportUK!!!
