Never thought of doing it in the slow cooker, doesn't seem worth it when it takes about 15-20 mins in the saucepan.

I usually brown the mince off first and then shove everything in the slow cooker on high for 1 hour and then low for 4 hours.
If its going to be in the slow cooker for a long time then I still brown the mince first but then put it on low for 7+ hours:)

Its just a good way of having a hot meal when you get home from work when you can't be bothered to cook:)
Also, using a slow cooker brings out the flavour so much more

1. Place all ingredients, except pasta and parmesan, in slow cooker, stirring to break up mince. Cook for about 5½ hours on auto.
2. Stir in pasta in slow cooker in last half hour and serve with parmesan cheese

I can see your point for most meals apart from this, especially if you brown the mince before hand, you a re slow cooking for 4 hours+ against 5 minutes in a pan. Wouldn't have thought it was worth the bother myself (but each to their own)

i dont brown the mince i just throw it in, i put it on high for part of the day then on low but if i was out all day then i'd put it on low then high for the last hour

thanks everyone x

Just remember the Raw Kidney bean problem if you try Chilli con carne. My sister and hubby nearly killed themselves back in the day with a slow cooker.
#12
oh yes thanks for telling me but we dont like kidney beans so dont put them in

totally agree. Why spend 5 hours cooking something you could have cooked whilst typing out this thread?
#18
but i didnt ask your opinions on whether it would be a waste of time i asked opinions on how long it would take to cook !
banned#19
well surely high cant be right, that would mean it would take 10+ hours on low

OK we will agree to disagree, but why not cook it now (in a pan) and reheat it when you get back?

I would have thought spag bol was bit dry to leave for 4-5 hours wiyhout a stir or two. But what do I know?
#22
BH, cook on low:thumbsup:
#23
Low will be fine, i use mine all the time, like you said the flavours are much better and if you can only afford cheaper cuts of meat, it makes it really tender.
We have had lamb shanks in minted gravy and lamb madras in ours already this week :)
#24
low is fine

Does use much electric at all to be honest only pennies

I cook mine for about 4 hours on the lowest setting my oven will do. It tastes 1000x better, try it once and see. I will never cook it in a pan again.
