Ok, so in the current climate, lots of people are unemployed and seeking work and finding it really difficult to support themsves and their families.

So imagine my disgust today when I found out that my friends partner, has been unemployed - through choice - since September. Literally, the guy walked out of his job and has not even bothered to apply for another job since. Meanwhile, he is claiming benefits, living in a flat which the council pays for and sitting in getting stoned practically every night.
The man once actually laughed because I said I was doing over time at work and said id be "better off on the bru" and encouraged me to quit my job and go on the waiting list for a council flat! I couldnt believe it.

It actually makes me sick thinking that there are complete wasters out there like that. A man of nearly 30 years old, fit and healthy who does not want to work and is happy to take state benefits whilst other people go out and earn a living.

No, and I know this goes on but it just perplexes me. Its no wonder the country is in such a bad state. It also makes me wonder how my friend can be happy to call this guy her other half.

There's loads of people like that...I remember when I was made homeless at 18, they told me I'm at the bottom of the list to get a place behind families, single mums, refugees etc.

The worst thing to hear was I was advised that if I'm a druggy or an alcoholic, I would be able to get a place a lot sooner. :?

I'm sure the guy has his own issues to deal with, so maybe put away the disgust and try understanding what they might be? Could help everybody reach a better place. Your friend also has the choice of walking away if she doesn't like the situation. It might help lessen your disgust too.

only when you've been a good rappy :whistling:

Why does the council need to house her when she has a job, all she needs to do is buy the local paper look in the to let section and away she goes.

If she is on a low wage housing benefit would also help her.

i personally don't think that's as bad as kids having kids, because it's a cop-out at getting an education and a paid job, instead they get the same lifestyle for free. council paid flat, child benefit, sit at home and watch tv benefit, chav clothing benefit.... Winds me up when they get my hard earnt cash! I actually went to school and they get my money!!!

His own problems such as...?
His free rent
His lazing about all day
His child from a previous relationship that he does not support had cant be arsed to go and see
His love of boozing, gambling and drugs

No thanks, Im still disgusted.

Because she is homeless perhaps, no one in the area will take her on as a private tenant because of her age, believe me she has tried.

She only earns £600 a month and the council have been useless.

Yes, well, disgust works in all sorts of ways. I could say I'm disgusted at you bringing this personal issue onto the forum.

And who's to say friends of yours outside HUKD aren't reading this and are aware of who you are dissing and accusing here? Could that be construed as disgiusting behaviour too? Or is that somehow different?

There's got to be a reason he's like that. I know disgust is the most fun emotion, but maybe a bit of empathy too?

Im sorry i thought forums were something in which we could all post different things and random rants, no?

And I havent named anyone or mentioned anything specific, also none of my friends know im a member on here so theres no need to worry about their privacy.

And as for "dissing and accusing" - not the case, im simply stating the facts. I am disgusted with people who cannot be arsed to get off their lazy bums and get a job, I am disgusted with people who commit benefit fraud and think its funny to claim benefits and not look for work.

If u think thats ok then thats your opinion but I certainly don't want to live in a place where people think its ok to take advantage of the system and have the cheek to laugh at how many hours other people have to work to afford their rent.

I feel empathy, but not for him. For his child, yes, for my friend, yes. I feel empathy for people who have lost their jobs and are desperately trying to find work - but not for wasters who dont want to work cos they get their rent for free if they dont.

Little point extra to what Furry and Liddle were saying, why do you think he walked out on his job? Speaking for myself, I've quit jobs, like I have many things, simply because I wasn't having fun. With a bad job, it can be hideously draining when you have to wake up each day, drag yourself out of bed, wash, eat, then slug along however far it is from home to the office, where you'll feel stressed out and miserable for pretty much the entire working day. You miss the entire summer as you make it home, only to feel too worn out and depressed from the day gone by and for fear of the day ahead to feel up to doing anything more than lounging out on the sofa and numbly hating your own existance.

Or at least, that was the state I was in towards the end of my previous job. I too quit, and spent months doing practically nothing. Four of them, in fact. It did get painfully boring towards the end of the unemployment stint.

Me, I got a new job, and I really enjoyed getting back into working with a fresh new atmosphere, new people, new challenges, all that sort of thing. I'm still at that new job now, and I am almost constantly happy to work there. I'm very happy too with all the cool things that the vast sums of money given to me lets me buy and do. It's great.

Maybe I'm not that different from your friend's partner. Don't hate him. You won't solve anything that way. If his lifestyle means so much to you, help him out, you'll both feel the better for it.

I have just been made redundant for the first time in my life (I'm 51), when I went to the job centre to see what I could claim for, I was honest and said some weeks I could work up to 15 hours approx Stewarding at Millennium Stadium ,Cardiff Blues rugby and working for Showsec. I was then told I am not eligable for a penny and I am not classed as unemployed !!!!!
What is this country coming to???

Quite a lot of anger and resentment bubbling in your posts imo. But yes, post what you like and report it as you see it by all means, but also understand that by doing so you are inviting critical as well as supportive comments.

Maybe reading dxx's experience above will help you see that the 'facts' as you see them might be a little more complex than you think. Anyway, hope you and all your friends and acquaintances get to happier places soon

Im sorry but if u have a child to support the there is no excuse for walking out of a job, no matter how much you cant stand it.

Oh, and he got fired for stealing.

So yeah... I hope they get to better places soon but I still think that its an awful way to be.

Curiouser and curiouser.

Sure you aren't just making parts of this up to justify your attitude?
#28
I see what your saying

BUT

There could be more 'issues' behind the scenes. Friends have secrets too and things they would like to keep to themselves.

If we had issues/problems at home, health etc I certainly wouldn't be discussing them with others.

My day job involves working with clients who are reliant on state benefits and dont work. One of them had the cheek the other day to say to me that my job is s*** and that I get paid a carp wage and didnt understand why anyone would want to do this job, yet she had never worked a day in her life.
O.k my job isnt the best paid in the world but I usually get over that by saying to myself that I am helping and supporting some of the most vulnerable families in society but recently I look at some of the families I work with and they receive more in benefits than I do in wages :x.
When I was a bit younger I used to believe in the redistribution of wealth, equality etc etc but now I just think either work and support your family to better yourself or die of starvation/poverty if you cant be arsed to work.
The welfare benefit system should be scrapped althogether and lets see how long these scroungers survive without anyone to put money in their pockets for free,
