Does it annoy anyone else when they get this wrong? I don't know why but it really annoys me when I see folk using the wrong one. Grumpy old me! LOL

Thats an easy one to remember though.

You bring something so remember the 'r' goes in brought

You buy something so no 'r' so bought.

Loose and lose, that kills me every time. How can you have an online argument with someone and take them seriously if they call you a looser!

Terrible grammar bugs me on web forums, bugs me even more when it's on printed material or in shops. I've seen so many PC's and CD's for sale it makes me want to commit arson.

Another one is weren't and wasn't

Quite often see "they wasn't there" instead of "they weren't there"

or worse still "I weren't there"

I have always thought 'were' is plural and 'was' is singular.

Don't get me started on double negatives lol :-

"Weren't nothing to do with me".

I must agree that their is a lot of this on some of they're posts. But it is not folks problem that there education is lacking. Now please just leave people alone to make there mistakes. Yes, bugs me something rotton. Thing is, although I know when and where to use these ones in particular, I do have trouble with some spelling so I can't really moan.

This reminds me of the Apprentice when they took 3 hours trying to work out where the apostrophe went in :-

singles (plural) day.

I would have thought it should be singles' day.
#12
tomato tomato does me same as potato potato
#13
Stupid text slang annoys me.
#14
What i get annoyed about, is people going on about this. Lack of education, mine was great and helped me a great deal.

I still get confused with it all, I'm dyslexic, and it really annoys me to see things like this!

eh? :?
#16
is it tomato or tomarto ?
#17
To be honest, most of the time I think it people get their 'there, their and they're' mixed up on this forum because they are typing so fast and not really thinking about the technical issues with grammar.

Singles is plural. It is not possessive. It is talking about a collection of single people: plural. You could argue that the statement is possessive because it is referring to a day for singles and therefore possessed by them. But that is stretching the point [...] For me the rule of thumb is: if the path is not obvious and you have conflicting rules keep it simple. Here I don't see any fine line. It's a bunch of single people. It's a bloody plural.

See now, I don't even understand what most of that said.

It still don't agree with you though, it should be as easy and automatic as deciding whether you want to write the word car or the word watermelon, no thought processes involved.
