i was just in my garden when i saw this big ugly rat run under my gate and go in next doors garden, its was horrid like the size of a kitten. im not surprised there is rats as our bins havent been emptied for two weeks, i was just wondering would the council put traps down or do i sort it myself, they never seem interested when i complain about my bins.

Why haven't your bins been emptied?

not sure, they did the street infront of us so god knows why they didnt do our street, its a pain when they dont do it as they wont take extra bags when they do eventually do it, this week we will have 3weeks worth of rubbish so they better had empty it on thursday.

I use this site now when ever there is a council problem in my street, over the last 7 weeks ive phoned my local council to complain about dog fouling outside my house and my sons school, nothing was done about it, so i used this site to complain and threatened them with my local MP and my street was cleaned the next day and the area manager came to my house to apologise as its the first time he knew there was a problem,

If you have rats because your bins are not emptied then complain to your council and your local MP. the council are responsible for getting rid of rats.

I had a dream about rats last night and they were coming in through the cat flap.I don't even have a cat!!!

Not responsible for rats externally - not in my area - if they were they'd have to employ about 20k folk nationwide to work 24/7 to exterminate them - and it would be pointless.

The bin issue is probably related however - give the cleansing dept a call and have them answer the question directly, rather than asking a fecking MP to abuse his/her powers.

Could someone have been double parked in your street and the bin lorry not been able to get by? If they can't get access when they arrive they tend to just leave it, I've see this happen before.

I'd worry if you happen to live in an older building as rats can in theory get into the larger pipes and come up and bite you on the bum when you on the toilet...sweet dreams.

its not the old builds you need to worry about its the new builds with cavity walls, we had rats in every wall in my last house, they even managed to eat through solid concrete floor and kitchen cupboards next door. , the guy nexr door had them nesting in his attic, have to say the council where brill trying to sort them out, we found out in the end the builder ( really really crap bulider) had not filled in around the edges of the house and left a massive 5 ft drop by 18 inches gap at the back of the house with open drain pipes leaking in to them so the rats had a free run of the 3 houses.

if i see a rat in my house im gone, it sends shivers down my spine just thinking about the ugly thing, we live near a dual carriage way with a big grassy area inbetween so maybe there coming from there. its quite an old house and its got an outside loo, i think i will buy some rat poison.

We have a outbuilding which just stores the black rubbish bags, Hose, Kids bikes, Lawnmower.
We kept noticeing that the black bags were being ripped and the babys nappies were in pieces. Happened loads. We then realised a mummy Rat built a nest using nappies and bits of hose that it chewed up.
We then had the joy of trying to chase this rat out of the shed without it attacking hubby lol. We then had about 9 babies we had to do something with. Called Pest control to see if they would sort the problem, nothing! No one wanted to know as they are just vermin.
We ended up taking the baby rats in a box down by the river side and just left them there, Couldn't face drowning them or killing them, Probably got eaten pretty quick anyways lol

Op if you are buying rat poison make sure its inside the traps not just a tray of the stuff its really toxic and can kill a child or other animal ( Pets). when we moved from the new build after forcing the builder to buy it back off us ( long story) i left him the warnings the council gave us as they had put the poison behind the shed as we found 2 dead rats in the garden, I told him to make sure he contacted the council before letting the house, told his solicitor the same, he didnt and a woman with 4 young kids moved in and her youngest got hold of the poison, thankfully he didnt eat it but he could have,
shes now trying to get out of her contract because the rats are back in the garden.
within 6ft of where you are standing there will be at least one rat the council told me

i think i will leave it up to the council then as ive got a young girl who ive just started letting her go in the garden im with her all the time but like yesterday when i was out id only turned round for a second to hang out some washing and she had got some soil out of a tub and tried eating it.

Last week, i was sleeping and having a very merry dream, when i felt something crawling down my right arm. In deep sleep, i chose to ignore it, but this thing continued to walk down my arm until a point i could ignore it no longer. As i slowly started to open my eyes, things were quite blurry at first and it appeared to be a tarantula (i thought i was still dreaming), but once my vision returned, i realised THAT IT WAS A BLOODY SMALL ADORABLE MOUSE. Instinctively i yanked my arm back, let out a shriek and the mouse ran behind the curtains. It remains on loose.

Just thought id share.....rather a mouse then a rat :p

Double ewwww!!! That is possible as you have seen it twice, unless there's loads of them, yikes.
