Really happy! Getting Iphone for free from O2 although still have 3 months on current contract!

Finally, finally, finally! I managed to get a good willing salesman who was eager to sell me the new iphone over the phone.
Believe me, I have been trying for a while now, I did not want to pay ridiculous amount of money to get the iphone 3g when it had come out, so went for a Nokia N73 but now I was really getting bored of the Nokia and wanted to lay my hands on the Iphone.....(i am now a full Apple convertee!)

I have tried my luck a few times in the past few weeks, by calling O2 and asking them to swap me over to a new 18 months contract, although my current contract only runs out in April; they used always refuse me, saying Iphone would be never given to me before my contract ran out or I was due an upgrade in March unless i forked out a £105 to end my contract early.

But yesterday I called them to say I want to end my contract and I am ready to buy the rest of my contract as I wanted to move over to Vodaphone as they are ready to give me an excellent deal on the new Blackberry Storm. That was it...he then said he would like to talk to his manager and came back to me with an offer I could not refuse. Brand New 16gb Apple Iphone for free on 18 months contract at 45£ per month and they would cancel my current contract as soon as I enabled my new iphone (which I should receive today)!

I am really happy and excited....just wanted to share it with you all. Hope someone else can apply the same technique to get a new iphone!

Ooooh!
What number did you ring? My contract is due to end in 2 months, and I'm looking at getting the Iphone...

£45 a month doesnt sound free to me. Sounds like £810 over 18 months including the call plan costs. My guess the call plan is £20 and your in fact paying £25 per month for the next 18 months to get it "for free".

My guess is they know the price is going to come down v soon and so they think locking you into a £800 commitment now , will actually make them more money, then the £100 they are letting you off.

I have a free car that you can have if you buy the keys for £5000.

£45 a month? You get the iphone for free anyway on that tariff on O2. Poor retention deal mate!

EDIT: I've just checked and you get the iphone free on £45 a month contract but its 8gb.

Did you ever watch the Harry Enfield sketch where he runs the shop "I Saw you coming". Not sure why that springs to mind at the moment.

£45 a month is a bit steep... I usually phone o2 to cancel to get my contract made cheaper lol

although if you really want the phone and have that money then I can see why ur pleased...

Brand New 16gb Apple Iphone for free on 18 months contract at 45£ per month

18 X 45 = not free. You do the maths

You were ripped off and they made it sound like they were doing you a favour.

For starters you should be getting a 20% loyalty bonus discount, because you have signed up to another contract. I bet they didn't tell you about that one.

Ah well I suppose you will know the next time.

OP,

Daugher on 02, got an automatic 30%, not 20% off monthly cost and phone of her choice at renewal. Glad your happy with the deal, but on reflection worth calling them again when you get the phone, tell them you're not happy at increased cost. They will offer you a reduction again. Nothing to lose if you don't want to call them.

Don't forget the OP had his contract until April - which they have cancelled the remaining 3 months, and then given him a new 18-month contract, not many companies will do that without you paying the remaining months (as he already stated).

At the end of the day it's still an expensive contract for a phone and the amount of minutes/texts.

If you had waited until March, when they would've offered you to upgrade/renew your contract, you could've gotten a much better deal, check the rentitions thread to see how much of a saving you could've made.

The sky comment was completely unrelated :S Internet to your home and internet on the go are two completely different things, especially cost wise.

Thanks for the comments everyone. But I think you have not got the message clearly off me....I have tried to get a new deal of them 3 (THREE) months before even ending my current contract which was £40.00 per month with 600 min and 500 texts whereas now I am going to get 1200 min and 500 texts with free internet. on top of all this I have the Iphone. Besides I can also go down a tariff in 9 months so its not going to cost me £810 as some have predicted.

Savings:
£105 = 3 months monthly charges if I lowerd my tariff to £35 pe rmonth today on current plan.
£290 = Apple iphone 16gb
£90 = After loweing my tariff in 9 months to £35 per month.

Total £485.00

Total charges I am going to pay over the 18 months beginning today £ 720.00 (9 x 45 and 9 x 35)

Total cost = £235.00 which means £13.00 per month!!! over 18 month period.....GUESS WHO IS LAUGHING!!
This message was particularly for the gentleman (jdpwest) who was trying to sell me his keyring....which he can gladly keep unless its a keyring for a Ferrari (if he can afford one)!

You have an unusual concept of 'savings' OP.

But hey, as long as you're happy, who cares?

So once you have paid £485 for those items list price you then have to pay another £235 for just the contract part of your deal. cant see how thats a good deal but then thats me. Might not seem such a good deal in a months time when they reduce the price and tarriff of the iphone .

Oh and my "free" car is still available should you want it, its worth £3000 but you'll be paying £500 a month for the next 12 months for the key ring.

I dont think u get my message. I am not paying any money upfront rather I am paying a monthly tariff. And besides I am getting the iPhone NOW and not 3, 5 or 12 months from now, when prices of every gadget which was released earlier will for obvious reasons be cheaper.

So try and understand mate! By the way keep the key ring to yourself! But thanks for the offer though!
