Last nights wide-ranging power cut, which left thousands of homes without power, was caused by scrap-metal thieves, it has been confirmed.

losing power is fun, used to get them all the time when I lived in a village. Haven't lost power since moving to a town though unfortunately.

Not long ago we had 3 power cuts in the space of about 2 weeks and it was like going back to the stone age. It was horrible, nothing works and you stand/sit there with the what candles you can find in your house (luckily im a horder) looking at all your stuff wishing them to come back on lol

You then start thinking, what if I was in the shower half covered in soap, or sat on the bog and then your blunged into total darkness :w00t:

Just goes to show how much you depend on electric... thank god we have it.

People with gas can boil a big pan of water and pour it into the bath

People without can start a fire in the back garden (BBQ) and boil some water that way

Isn't Watford a completely backwards hellhole that doesn't really need power anyway?

Ironically, we lost our cable network the other weekend, and that was to scrap metal theives too... Thing was they sliced the cable and started to pull it up, THEN realised it was fibre optic and not copper, so just left it - lol

Hey, perhaps these 'copper thieves' are actually a blessing in disguise, if the suppliers replaced the stolen copper cable with fibre optic then not only wouldn't it get stolen anymore, but the UK might also end up with a half decent data network!

I think you'll find that fibre optic cable isn't much use in the sub-station!

Joke - I understood what you meant!

Re the Watford situation, how much metal would they get anyway??? Not that much, surely? They probably have a grudge against the power company or Watford or the people of Watford or the some-such.
