Lol that makes no sense, your eating the same thing but it's in powder form, it's still chicken and what not just ground up.

I don't take supplements, mainly because I don't really see the need in it. Taking powder all day doesn't give the same as eating proper meals you need to get your priorities right harvie.

Im not 100% against it sure if your working all the time, but with every meal you need a set number of foods such as chicken breast, vegetables, new potatoes etc. Yes your getting just ONE thing but your not getting everything you need for the day. I know some people who live off the stuff and they haven't got anywhere. Im not 100% against it but I don't see why people avoid just eating food. Aside obvious reasons stated.

dont mean to sound arragorant but here it goes....

you do not need a set number of foods for each meals (although obz having enough furit veg and minerals would be helpful, but not NEEDED). This guy wants to put weight on (I assume muscle mabye a little of fat), too doo this he will need to consume extra caliores. Because the forumla to put on weight is:

for example if u eat 4000calls and burn off 3500cals. The rest of the 500cals will be used to create muscle/stored as fat, resulting in weight gain.

There could be a number of reason why he wants the protien shake.

1. He does not get enough protein in the day (hes a veggie)
2. He does not get enough time in the day to make a lot of food.
3. For whatever reasons he can not get enough food thoughout the day so
decides to buy a shake.

IMO there is nothing un-natural about drinking a protien shake, it would be more un-natural to have a choc bar with all the E numbers and chemicals if were going to go down that road. To many people think of Protien shake/creatine and always assume the worst
sorry about the spelling I am a bit drunk.:giggle:

PS- Turkey is the best meat to eat lol

PSS- dont call me a n00b

Do you take it?

yeah I take it and I take creatine:w00t:

If you want flavoured stuff I recommend ON Whey 100% Gold Standard,

Myprotein in good as well, I go there cos it's cheap as chips a kg for less than a tenner. I just mix it and down it. No need for flavouring lol.

Pick up some Milk Protein Concentrate as well for pre-bedtime ;)

I went for this when bulking up, but that Whey seems okay as well mate
#17
thansk, out of the two though is one better then the other?
#18
well IMO for putting on weight the weight gainers, as it has more calls then othe other. there is no really big diff from there to apart from the bulk one has more calliores that helps you get bigger.

it dont taste that nice though! YUK lol
#19
all rite then thanks mate, think i might get a flavoured one.

Hi phoenix,

looks bit of a wierd thread with some of the earlier posts (ground up chicken?? lol) I should be a good candidate to give advice being a 2 x Mr Britain, 2 x top finisher at Mr Universe and a trainer of top athletes all by the age of 22.... and i'm also of a pre skinny disposition too so its all down to hard work and getting it right!

Anyway, the first thing to putting your weight on would be too assess your diet - get your base in of 3-4 good meals a day then start adding shakes in to supplement the diet. as suggested earlier for putting lean bodyweight on you'd want a mixture of protein and some good complex carbs like the product suggested above as the protein will then be used for muscle and repair as the carbs will attend to your energy needs, especially if your of a fast metabolism, like myself!! The pre mentioned names are good Myprotein is great for cheap unflavoured supplements and making your own formulas, I personally like the ON Whey Gold standard and by the bulk bags for cost effectiveness and mix it with malto dextrin from myprotein.

I also like LAMuscles whey protein and UK Muscles proteins and weight gain products and they also sell the malto dextrin.....if you need any more advice mate just holla
#21
Just do lots of research before taking a product, dont just listen to what people on a forum say.

As Mr.B says, diet is VERY important. They say that to put on size its 70% diet and the rest hardwork in the gym. You basically have to eat like an animal. Lots of complex carbs, cut the **** out, keep the protein up.

Protein wise, a whey protein is very important post workout. No it isnt imperative, but it defineatly helps.

I use the multipower whey protein. It isnt cheap, I pay £45 for a 2.5kg tub. The main reason I use it is because it tastes really nice with water.

Ctreatine = pointless unless your stuck at a weight.

Find the program called 'simply huge training program' (google it).

Reflex instant whey is good protien, however if youy want weight you need carbs as well, try 'serious mass' by ON. Half a serving in the morning, half in the day, plus 3-4 good meals a day plus some protien at night.

You need at least 1g of protien per lb of body weight, i.e say 200g at least for 15st body. I cannot stress how impiortant diet is for weight gain, low fat, low sugar, high carb, high protien. Whatever you think you need to eat double it. Those shakes say 20g serving of protien twice a day is a joke, like I say you need alot. However try and break eating up to lots of small meals ideally.Serious reflex strawberry or vanilla, and then serious mass by on (only buy vanilla) take those and eat well and with any sort of half decent program you will not fail to gain weight.
#23
Sorry I meant 1g of protien per 1lb of body weight per day, every day, rest or training etc. 200g a day is ALOT of food, expensive so yes do try a protien supplement.

I agree you need a balance of real food as well as supplements, but to be 'big' it is not possible just to eat food only, unless you have tons of money and time. I spend over £300 a month on food, no junk just lots of meat & carbs to go with uit, all at tesco and plenty of offers etc. I still need supplements to meet my daily needs, if I drop any food levels then I lose weight fast. Maintaining weight is very hard for some people, try eating 200g of protien every single day, thats say 5-6 good size chicken breats per day, £10 worth!
Also people forget you need alot of carbs as well as protien, again try 500g a day, not easy or cheap if just doing 'real' food.
#25
some good advice there but also some I would have to disagree with for example you recommend low fat diet but really for optimum weight gain you would want a medium fat diet but to get the fats from good sources and not saturated fat as dietary fat is one of the main synthesisers of testosterone which is a main thing people look to increase when trying to gain lean body weight. Also, creatine has many uses like drawing water into muscle stores and increasing muscles ATP (basically your muscles energy stores) and has a variety of other benefits too
#26
I just meant dont go OTT on the fat, i.e if you eat 5-6 meals a day then you'll be getting a fair amount of fat even with fairly healthy options. Agree still need some fat in the deit of course, I just wouldnt say if you eat 5x the RDA for protien then eat 5x the RDA for fat etc.
#27
no problem i completely understand that telling people they can eat fat sometimes means they think they can get away with anything but i just wanted to make sure i pointed out the opposite side of the scale as a moderate amount of healthy fats added into the diet can pay dividends. However if its muscle gain you want you have to be careful of having fish and fish oils around training time as recent research has indicated the anti inflammotory effects can impinge muscle growth!!
#28
i Use 90+ as it seems to be the highest amount of protein per 100g available (i may be wrong but certainly none similar are as cheap) i get it in 5kg tubs and its usually about 50quid delivered, worth buying in bulk deffo. protein shakes are a godsend dont understand anyone who knocks them , where else can u get a quick 40g protein down ya neck in 10 seconds for a few pence????

I'll second Reflex. Its good proven stuff and fairly cheap too.

They do a few flavours and they taste good compared to other brands

Oh and a lot of nights just before bed i will have a tub of quark, about 50p in sainsburies and will give you about 30g of casein protein (slow release for when your asleep )

lol couldn't agree more, my mates are fassies like that

Just made me feel sick even smelling it. But yes agree, just neck the shakes, however i tried strawberry and with water so probably why.

I've ordered some of that Gold Standard stuff, as beeing use the serious mass by ON and it does work so will add a bitg more protien, among for 250g a day now to see if that helps as I'm stuck at high 15's now weight wise (stone),

I was on the H&B choc whey protein for for over a week last month and I had constipation - never again. It did tast ok though, blend it with a banana and it is pretty good.

Also when I drink Nurisment I get the sh*ts (I think it is maby because I am lactose intolerent).

Now I am going to try Tesco skimmed milk powder. I heard it is quiet good for protein.
