Will look into it but don't think it appeals to use, we're looking to add somewhere for more culture

Mmmmm Ko Samui.......there are many lovely islands to visit in Thailand and this is probably the most well known but not necessarily the best.Ko Samet may be one to consider for a honeymoon but I suggest doing a bit googling and investigate the choices.

I don't think the OP is interested in an argument over their Honeymoon destination, though having travelled through the whole of Malaysia, I have to say it wasn't my cup of tea. KL was a very smelly place and couldn't wait to get away. I did like Penang though, but been to nicer places.

All depends what you want OP..... Seems to be a lot of places to travel to and lots of packing. Won't you have other things on your mind? (You did say it was your honeymoon didn't you?)

Anyway, of your chosen places, there is a fair bit of contrast. Indeed, that will be the case, dependant on the locations within. eg, Bali can be tranquil, it can also be Benidorm of the East!

In the area, Macau or maybe even Viet Nam, Tokyo or Manila are missing. (Obviously there are lots... but you know what I mean.)

Have a fun time though...... I'm flying over that way myself in 6 weeks..... and don't forget why you are taking this holiday! :p

You obviously didn't go to the right places.
I spent half of last year in Malaysia, and it's not smelly, apart from maybe a few suburb areas where no tourists would go anyway.
The centre of KL is well developed and is a must see, especially KLCC, Petronas Twin Towers, KL Tower, And the beautiful islands such as Langkawi. and a trip to Borneo.
Amazing wildlife such as wild monkeys etc, and one of the main things it's extremely cheap.

Spent a while travelling through China, i'd recommend Longji/Guilin for scenery and culture. It's a bit "backpacky" but you cant beat it.

fail ^^^

not sure about Koh Samui, but if its anything like Phi Phi, you're in for a real treat.

last summer, we went to Hong Kong (now my fav. city in the world), then Kuala Lumpur (interesting city - jungles closeby aswell), then Phi Phi (quite literally paradise) and then Phuket (went elephant ride and on a john gray sea canoe trip)

i can 100% recommend the John Gray sea canoe trip - one of the best things we did over there. breathtaking. if you can do it, you wont regret it. if you dont believe me check out tripadvisor reviews - and they'll pick you up from your hotel! we went on the Hongs by starlight i think. http://johngray-seacanoe.com/

if you are going on your honeymoon, i can recommend Holiday Inn Phi Phi. honestly, you'd never guess it was holiday inn! lol. if you get a beach side apartment you wont regret it. fantastic service. they own the beach infront of you. cant recommend that highly enough. if you are staying in Phuket for the John Gray tour, then this is just a boat ride away. also, by staying at the Holiday inn you avoid the back packers. down the beach there are 'sea gypsys' (locals) with awesome, yet ridiculously cheap restaurants, and they offer boat rides and will take you to a nice quiet beach for some relaxation and swimming etc.
also the sunset bar at the hotel is incredible. cant recommend that place highly enough. best place to stay on Phi Phi by a mile. incredible service. would love to go back! getting excited myself!

Haha.... I'd not even twigged on the "fail" comment!

Not interested in either of those now tbh. Bangkok is and always will be a smelly city and apart from a few temples within (and Patpong) isnt somewhere I'd be wanting to go back to. The last time I was on Samui, they were just building the airport. (How can you miss the 6 hour night boat crossing from Surathani and potential pirates!) I'd imagine its just like Benidorm now, which is a shame because it really was quite unspolit. I wonder what's become of the Grandma and Grandpa stones!

Am thinking about staying at the island village beach resort which isn't far from holiday inn. When you say boat ride to do the john gray tour, where and how do you get the boat and what does it cost?

We have a budget of about £15,000 for our honeymoon and have spent £4k on flights alone so with hotels we'll have about £8k left so having to watch the pennies a bit, am ready restaurants etc are expensive out there....atleast the ones in the hotels... Our last holiday to the maldvies we spent £5,000 on food and drink in one week (mind you it was £30 a cocktail) so nearly 4 weeks on this trip will be tough with only £8k

sorry, i meant Phi Phi is just a boat ride away from phuket. for the john gray boat tour they pick you up from your hotel, all included in the price.

£30 for a cocktail?!? its nowhere near that much over there, atleast i didnt come across any that cost that much! you can easily get by on 5K! in fact, i'd find it harder not to!
