Recommend me a new PC.

My PC has finally come to that point of no return where it's almost completly made of replacement parts that i've added over time. With it now shutting down every day of it's own accord and software running sluggish regardless of my actions, i've decided to try for a new system.

I need any recommendations of a sub £400 (cheaper the better) system that will run great and allow me to upgrade in the future if I need. I own a few old LCD screens and have hard-drives all over the place so don't need the former and the latter can be upgraded. I would also be willing to stick in a cheap graphics card if intergrated brought the initial price down.

I don't use games but do a bit of video rendering so the ability to handle this would be nice, also Vista does my head in so XP would be preferred but isn't a deal breaker. Brand name would be nice but not necessary and good looks would be a bonus.

Been looking around myself, but any help appreciated.

Have a look at PC World, or Dixons clearance offers. They are great value, and although say refurbished I dont think they are, just end of lines. I have bought a PC and a laptop and very pleased with both.
No idea about your computer knowledge but suggest you go for dual core.

That may rule out dell/PC world/DSG depending on how much upgradability you want. You could try someone like www.pcspecialist.co.uk but I don't know what they're like for cheap systems.

I have a fair patchwork of computer knowledge based solely on me being a cheap ******* who would rather repair than buy new.

I have my own dual core HP laptop that is locked behind a fingerprint scanner (and is in perfect condition) but the 'main' PC is also used by family and has been completly thrashed, at one point smoke was coming out until the PSU was replaced (by me). :-D

The person who recommended Dell, how long is order till delivery usually?

about a week, it depends on what bits you order though and if they have them ready to build.
