Recovery Program...?

Hello all,

There was a free recovery program on here a few months ago to download but for some reason I can't find the link or the name of it, I downloaded it but can't seem to find it on my PC, it gave you the option to save it to a USB or CD. I have a laptop that has a virus and when I start it up it just comes up with a blue screen! Does anyone know of any free program to get it up and running and save all of the information on the hard drive?

Download a Knoppix Live CD.
If there is data there you should be able to recover it through Knoppix. Do a google for "knoppix recover".
Do you have an external hard disk or large memory stick to back up the data onto?

I can find one if need be. Thank you for the info. Have you used it your self?

Yes I have, but quite a while ago. It can look a bit daunting but if you follow one of the online instructions you should be fine. One big advantage of using Knoppix or one of the other Live CDs is that the underlying Linux operating system can't be attacked by any Windows virus that you might have on your hard drive.

Nice sounds good. Trying to find a link to download it but not having any luck at the moment because they are all requesting money for it!

Downloading from the University of Kent looks like a good option :)

Charging for Knoppix? There's a right racket! As MBeeching says, Kent University is a good place to try, but any of the other mirror sites should work fine.

Good luck!
